The subframe mount bushings and the diff mount make a HUGE difference in emergency and highway handling (rear wheel steer!) -- John W Reames jream...@verizon.net Home: +14106646986 Mobile: +14437915905 On Mar 4, 2013, at 20:02, Dan Penoff d...@penoff.com wrote: On a car that is in excess of 30 years old, you can almost bet that a lot of the undercarriage rubber bits are original or weren't changed in recent history. Now granted, my knowledge is a bit dated, but the cost of the parts involved isn't significant, nor is their replacement. Putting new pieces in will make a big difference in how the car sounds, rides and runs, without exception. Some parts, such as the differential mount, can even have a major effect on the handling and ultimately the safety of the car under certain conditions. Here are some parts prices from the Q based on a 1983 300SD (W126): Motor mount - $26/ea for Lemforders (the best) Transmission mount - $23 Differential mount - $75 OK, so there is about $150 for these parts. Amortize that over the life of the car, even for the miles only you have put on it, and it's cheap. And I can assure you that if these pieces are even half worn, you'll still see a noticeable improvement in the car in a number of areas. And I'm not being obsessive about this - it just makes sense to do it if you're going to be in the neighborhood, so to speak. I learned about the flex disk/motor mount relationship at our local section tech session this weekend. I had never thought about the motor and transmission angle change/drop impacting the driveshaft angles and creating more trouble for the disk. Makes sense though. Taking the whole car apart was another item, since three of the cars on the rack had disk issues. Gump was stone simple and doing a disk swap was not a problem. Wide open and nothing in the way. Froggy has the dang exhaust impinging on the driveshaft, the newer cars have all sorts of pipes, tubes, hoses and stuff routed all over. To get into the drive shaft, you have to take the underside of the car apart. Might as well hit the wear items while you have it open instead of paying for it down the road. Labor is done now, just parts. Next time labor cost gets tossed in. The water pump in Frosch is weeping. Stealer quotes $2500 for the job. Indy wants $900. I might be able to find time on BiL shop schedule to cut that by a goodly amount. I already paid indy to swap in a thermostat. A search on the internet for Trent Fiorini brings up a guy in IL who works for a flooring business, along with other members of his family. Is this our man? I wouldn't think so, as a well run local floor business could do much better than a single guy trying to sell car parts on the internet. With big guys like autohausaz out there cornering the market with cheap chinese parts, it seems like a very bad time to get into the parts business as a new guy. This is just my opinion, of course. I will be on the lists. I am starting a new sales office for WorldPac, at their Atlanta warehouse. I am going back to my original roots of selling to independent garages. I did this for 20 years before buyMBparts. It is a lot of fun as well. I am blessed to have had jobs that are really not work but a pleasure. The added bonus is 3 times the money AND paid benefits! [MBZ] Chavez's heir: from bus driver to president-in-waiting
(Condensed) The 50-year-old Maduro was appointed vice president only in October of 2012, after Chavez's successful re-election bid. But with his bushy, dark mustache, Maduro has made a name for himself at home as one of the most visible faces of the ruling PSUV party and in diplomatic circles as Venezuela's foreign minister since 2006. Despite his devotion to Chavez, analysts view Maduro as an ideological moderate within the PSUV, and say he has keen negotiating skills that have been honed by the work involved in keeping Chavez's varied constituencies united over the years. New elections could be a fresh opportunity for opposition leader Henrique Capriles, who is currently bidding to return as Miranda state governor after losing to Chavez in the presidential vote. Capriles was soundly defeated in October but claimed the fractured opposition's best score in a presidential election since Chavez rose to power. http://www.france24.com/en/20121212-maduro-profile-venezuela-vice-president-chavez-successor-chavismo-capriles ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
[MBZ] Coast to Coast on 2 gallons of gas
The winter 2012 issue of Tractor Supply magazine, Out Here, has an article about an MTSU ag professor who drove coast to coast on a little over 2 gallons of gasoline using hydrogen from water and solar as the basic fuels. Popular media stories describe his trip but don't give as much detail: MTSU professor drives coast to coast on 2 gallons of fuel A Middle Tennessee State University professor who hoped to drive from the east to west coast on just 10 gallons of gasoline drove the distance using only about two gallons. Dr. Cliff Ricketts and his eight-member team drove from Tybee Island, Georgia to Long Beach, California using 2.15 gallons of gasoline. The distance was about 2,500 miles. The team converted a 1994 Toyota Tercel and 2005 and 2007 Toyota Prii to use solar, electric, ethanol and hydrogen fuel in addition to gasoline to make the trip. The team arrived in Long Beach around 1:15 p.m. local time Thursday, more than one hour earlier than they expected. I feel like I climbed Mt. Everest, said Ricketts, who lives outside Mt. Juliet in Wilson County and commutes to MTSU. This has significance in life and it has significance for mankind. Ricketts said he's planning a similar coast-to-coast trip in 2013 on only sun and water. http://www.wkrn.com/story/17119972/mtsu-professor-drives-coast-to-coast A group of MTSU students and their professor could be making history this month. They plan to drive across the country without using an ounce of gasoline. Instead, their fuel comes right out of the faucet. It is a car powered by hydrogen gas, and the hydrogen comes out of the water we drink. We actually start with water, says MTSU Professor Dr. Cliff Ricketts. It is basic H2O, and part of it makes the perfect fuel. The fuel in our vehicle is a hydrogen gas, pressurized gas, says Dr. Ricketts. Dr. Cliff Ricketts specializes in alternative fuels at MTSU. On March 9th he and his students will begin a coast to coast drive using no gas. Using a process called electrolysis, Ricketts and his students separate the hydrogen from water. The gas is then kept in a pressurized tank and used as fuel. Putting a man on the moon or going from coast to coast on sun and water, which has the most impact to mankind? I believe this does, says Dr. Ricketts. Dr. Ricketts is even conscious about the power he is using to produce the hydrogen gas. The process is completely fueled by solar power. This is actually a second attempt. Last year Ricketts and his team traveled across the country using only two gallons of gas. The goal this time is to use absolutely none. They will carry extra hydrogen with them. Ricketts hopes to prove that America's vehicles can be energy independent and pollution free. It's knowing that you're making a difference to mankind, and that the research you're doing actually helps everybody, says Ricketts. The car is all fueled up. The drive begins in just about a week, but it could have implications for years to come. Dr. Ricketts and his team will start their trip on Tybee Island in Georgia, and conclude it five days later in Long Beach, California. The trip coincides with MTSU's spring break. http://fox17.com/newsroom/features/go_green/videos/vid_52.shtml Gerry ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

I've been buying Mercedes parts for about about 40 years. Of all the sellers, my experience with Rusty has been the best; both in terms of parts quality, service, and the fact that you can talk to somebody who isn't just watching the clock and putting in time. The new guy may not know as much about Mercedes cars, parts, etc.; but then neither did any of the other sellers I've dealt with. I noticed recently that when I have the headlights on and push the stalk of the multi-function switch forward, the high beams do not come on. I see a lot of people on other forums touting Autohaus, but based on the prices they are quoting, much of it is the Chinese URO brand crap. When the prices are half of what other suppliers are quoting, you have to ask yourself what could be so different that accounts for something costing so much less? Dan GIGO (one of) the great things about Q is that he could supply chinee crap if you want it, OEM stuff, if you wanted, or OE if that's what you want, and some times quality third party parts, if that's what fills the need, all at competitive prices, and with a smile and a gawga drawl. And an occasional BBQ. GIGO still holds. If you want chinee crap, why bother with AZ? just buy it on fleabay or crockauto. Or if you want to be abused by an angry fatman, go fer it.
