Re: [MBZ] Air conditioning - Freeze 12
I will be replacing my compressor, drier, and expansion valve this weekend. The compressor died last fall, and it was probably the nasty PAG from the 134 conversion that hastened the demise. I've decided to use ES-12 this time. I was trying to locate some of the Frigi-Quiet II compressor oil, but am beginning to believe it's mythical in existence. Any recommendations for proper mineral oil, or should I just get what Car-Quest has on the shelf? And yes, I will flush the system thoroughly. Years ago it was too low for nearly all big highway trucks. If an out of state semi-driver asked for directions to U.S. 19 at an Ocala area truck stop, some joker would often send him west on Route 40. The railroad overpass was obviously too low, so the drivers nearly always managed to stop before hitting it. The problem was that there was no place to even get off the road for about two miles back, and there would usually be many cars and small trucks backed up behind the semi-driver. Someone would finally call the police who would manage to stop the traffic pileup, but I've never figured out how they managed to get dozens of vehicles to back up for one or two miles without it taking hours. By the time we retired and moved to the area, the railroad bridge had been raised and the semis could pass under it. One would have thought the state would put up flashing lights and warning signs at the last place a semi could turn around, but that was old time Florida and foresight was in short supply. I think the back light is the projector, which is to say I think its a rear projection setup with the projector in the tunnel. Notice also how the tunnel goes dark just before the water comes on. I expect that due to the way the tunnel sits down that unless the sun were directly behind the vehicle the sign would be quite visible. -Curt Date: Fri, 10 May 2013 09:25:22 -0600 From: Craig diese...@pisquared.net To: Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Subject: Re: [MBZ] OT Aussie idiots get water signs Message-ID: 20130510092522.27ed5d0ffae05e9135e22...@pisquared.net Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII On Thu, 9 May 2013 20:57:13 -0500 Dieselhead 126die...@gmail.com wrote: This is actually very cool https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embeddedv=NoTMC-uxJoo --R That water sign is way cool! Friends of ours have a visually impaired so who I have done a lot of IT work for, hence I am familiar with programs such as Jaws. He has said that since he got an iPhone his connectivity has jumped significantly due to the accessibility features. He occasionally posts photos that he takes, which are pretty comical, as he has no way to aim or frame the picture. He's a really good natured guy who takes his exceptionality well. I get a kick when people stop themselves when they start to say, see you later! and his response will be something flippant. I convinced his folks to move him to a Mac several years ago, mainly due to their accessibility features. He has been very pleased, and that is what led him to a iPhone. [MBZ] ATE vs Bendix Calipers...more...
All, Thanks for the inputs on the ATE vs Bendix calipers question for my 74 240D. It came with ATE calipers. My basic question is whether I can replace *both* L and R calipers with Bendix. I tried to mount a Bendix caliper on the front right but there was interference from the rotor, not sure if it was an incompatible mount or merely rust on the rim of the rotor. Any ideas? Re: [MBZ] (buymbparts)....facebook.
I normally stock garage beer. Best for removing dust and relieving parched throats while performing auto or yard work. Normally an ice or standard, low price, american lager. After a family gathering recently, my mother had opened a bottle of people beer and did not pour but a third of the beverage into her glass before she left. I found the remainder the next morning and not wanting to waste it, I used it as fluid for making bread batter. The bread turned out quite tasty and not wanting to over invest in future loaves, I found a case of PBR at the grocers that was much below the retail cost of the other beers. That is now the beer base for my bread. That is about the only use, other than to exterminate slugs, I have found for PBR. clay On May 10, 2013, at 8:07 AM, Rich Thomas wrote: It's really funny all the hipsters these days are drinking PBR, which was pissbeer back when I got introduced to it, and it still is. Re: [MBZ] OT: chain saws
Sounds like any 16-18 inch consumer-grade chainsaw will fit your need. You'll find several types at Walmart, Lowes, etc. Pro-grade saws will cost 2x-3x the price of the homeowner stuff. Whatever you get: (1) don't store it with fuel in the tank (or you'll need to replace the carb), (2) don't use old fuel; store your fuel-oil mix in a small can for that reason, (3) agitate the fuel can before pouring and agitate the saw before using, and (5) buy a file (in the correct size) to sharpen the chain. Re: [MBZ] the missing
Sorry to hear about your illnesses, Roger. That's a difficult trio of health problems to be hit with almost simulataneously. However, the fact that you came through them so well would indicate that you have a very good chance of a relatively full recovery. We'll be rooting for you. Gerry From: relng...@aol.com My absence since 2/22/13 has not been due to any actions, disputes or anything else here so credit can be taken The fact is that I have been among the missing because of a colossal health crisis that very nearly resulted in my death. After 12 years my cancer has returned for which I am now under re-treatment. I've had two surgeries, the second of which ended up causing a huge problem and the first of two two week hospital stays (at Swedish First Hill/Seattle) and both of which started as UTIs and progressed to near septicemia. After the first one where I was declared cured and discharged to a two week rehab center stay, one week later it all came back and I was admitted to the ER with a 103.3 temp for which someone my age is a very big deal. I was headed down the plughole but after being connected to everyline in the building and being seen by a parade of specialists, after two more weeks I was once again sent to the same rehab center for another two week stay. The most awful thing about this adventure is that since 2/23 I have been cursed with an indwelling catheter which has effectively ended my former life for the time being. So, I've missed all the MBCA and PCA events which I always attend. But, there is a fix for this which is called a Suprapubic catheter (google it) which will eliminate the urinary catheter and end the infections that have made life hell for the last three months. But since I had some heart damage during the last infection I am required to get a surgical clearance from my Cardiologist first. So. I overnighted last night in the hospital after the installallation of the first of two stents to open up some blockages I didn't know I had. No after effects at all except from lying on the table in a cold room for three hours while wires etc where maneuvered around in my main pump and I feel quite normal. The wrist entry was used instead of the groin entry which made things easier for me. When I finally logged on to check emails there were 742 in my inbox and I've been deleting most of them but there are too many to delete all at once which I hoped to do. RLE I am not done with this yet but when is finished to the point that I can become active again I am looking forward to cleaning up my C300 which has not had a bath since late February. Re: [MBZ] CNG - was: Crown Vic?
If you do a true apples to apples comparison of Diesel fuel and CNG fuel, which would include all the special handling equipment and engine changes necessary to actually run CNG, the BTU yield per pound of material is still much lower for CNG than Diesel. Internal combustion engines are heat engines.. you have to make heat to get power. If the fuel used simply does not possess the density of BTU's per unit of fuel, it takes more of that fuel to make the equivalent useful horse power. CNG is the poster child for clean burning and for government subsidy but not for efficiency per pound of energy yield. The argument can be made that without government subsidy keeping the GNG industry pumped up, no one would bother with it. Numerous transit companies have ordered and used CNG buses as part of their fleet mix. In every case, as soon as the government money which supported them ran out.. they were retired and sold off for pennies on the dollar.. Grant... Who presently owns 3 retired diesel buses and has owned more than 10 in the past 10 years and has had a good look at CNG buses at auctions.
