The w140 is making coolant disappear.

SDL was doing that. Intermittent pinhole leak in
the hose to the heater core, right where it came
off the head. Maddening.

Wrong target, mao. The voting system isn't perfect but the real problem is
the electorate who are both mis-educated (which is worse than ignorant) and
greedy. Some say it is greedy to want to keep what you earn but I say it is
greedy to demand to get what someone else earned.

Yes, but you need to check it out. Springfield XD pistols come from
Croatia, Browning rifles are made in Japan, etc. Ruger, S&W, Mossberg,
Remington, and others (especially Henry) are all US, as far as I know. On
the other hand, like cars, several "foreign" brands are US made (Beretta,
FNH, etc.)

US made ammo has been scarce (hording) since Newtown. They say that
American ammo is the best but much of what's available comes from Russia,
Eastern Europe, or the Far East these days.

Judging by the scarcity of guns and ammo, the knee-jerk legislative response
to Newtown has dramatically increased the stockpile of guns and ammo in US
civilian homes.

[MBZ] missing coolant

2014-01-10 Thread clay
The w140 is making coolant disappear.

#1 boy drove the car after the fan bearings failed and the engine got too hot.
There was steam under the hood. When the car went to the indy for repair,
leakage of coolant was noted, but no viable explanation or investigation took
place.

The car has been back on the road for about a month, and last week the low
coolant light came on. I had him check level, which was low. He wanted to
fill up with coolant, but I advised water and added about a gallon with about
12 oz of G-05. I figured the indy had not topped off the tank, and it was
steam lost. Told the boy to keep an eye on it and check his fluids every day.
Put a gallon of water in his trunk, for emergency use. Over the past week he
has used all the fluid.

SO, I worried it might be head gasket, but though better that it could be hose
failure to the monovalve. I have tried to get data on just where to look for
said hose or clamp failure, but no luck from EPC and other interweb sites.
Anybody know where I should look on the actual car for hose at firewall? Car
is 92 300SE, M104 engine. It really blows ICE COLD.

Two days ago? Since this last one, they were much more than two days
ago, you were notified, and you didn't reply; something I understood at
the time because you were out working according to other members.
What I don't understand is why you continue to have this problem when
similar groups I am on never have this sort of problem. Do they have
better spam filters?
However, since this is a free list and you are running it gratis, I have
no personal argument with you, and I appreciate your having taken it
over and run it since the previous list owner. Except for this
infuriating "blackballing", you've done a good job of running the list;
especially since its morphed into more of an "everything else in
addition to Mercedes" list than a focused Mercedes list such as when
Marshal (r.i.p.) was on it.
Nevertheless, it would seem the whole problem could have been avoided if
you had simply whitelisted all the regulars on the list when the problem
first occurred. Come to think of it, you "did" whitelist me when I
contacted you (or maybe you simply adjusted the filters) several months
or more ago when the problem first happened to me. Okay, so you say I'm
whitelisted now? Hopefully that will solve the problem.
As far as the so-called "Hitler List" is concerned, I was on it, may
still be on it, and had no problems at all; even bought under-the-dash
parts from one of the members IIRC. However, the amount of valid
information about Mercedes was much less than on this list.

(End of rant and end of discussion on my part.)

Re: [MBZ] Why we must go to yard sales...... 3y5y8y8y

2014-01-10 Thread Dieselhead

Good one Gerry!

Sometime this year, we taxpayers will again receive another
'Economic Stimulus' payment. This is indeed a very exciting program,
and I'll explain it by using a Q & A format:

Q. What is an 'Economic Stimulus' payment?
A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.
Q. Where will the government get this money?
A. From taxpayers.
Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?
A. Only a smidgen of it.
Q. What is the purpose of this payment?
A. The plan is for you to use the money to purchase a
high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy.

Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China?
A. Shut up.

Below is some helpful advice on how to best help the U.S. economy
by spending your stimulus check wisely: If you spend the stimulus
money at Walmart, the money will go to China or Sri Lanka. If you
spend it on gasoline, your money will go to the Arabs. If you
purchase a computer, it will go to India, Taiwan or China. If you
purchase fruit and vegetables, it will go to Mexico, Honduras and
Guatemala. If you buy an efficient car, it will go to Japan or
Korea. If you purchase useless stuff, it will go to Taiwan. If you
pay your credit cards off, or buy stock, it will go to management
bonuses and they will hide it offshore.

Instead, keep the money in America by: 1) Spending it at yard
sales, or 2) Going to ball games, or 3) Spending it on prostitutes,
or 4) Beer or 5) Tattoos. (These are the only American businesses
still operating in the U.S.)

Conclusion: Go to a ball game with a tattooed prostitute that you
met at a yard sale and drink beer all day !

No need to thank me, I'm just glad I could be of help.

All the sockets are on rails, so as long as every clip on the rail has a socket

Tool shadowing
This involves specifying a specific space for each tool. It
should be designed in such a way as to quickly determine if a
tool is missing. A popular method is to use some type of foam
product and cut out spots for each tool. In a toolroom
environment, walls can be used with pegboard and hooks.
The item is then outlined and shadowed.

The Catalog Descriptions for the two courses are:

Study of amplifiers, oscillators, integrated circuits, and operational
amplifiers. Computer solutions of electronic circuits.

ELCT 204L: Electronics Lab. (2 units)
Advanced laboratory measurements and design. Measurements using AC and DC

So, it looks that that's not a part of the curricula.

[MBZ] Why we must go to yard sales...... 3y5y8y8y

2014-01-10 Thread arche...@embarqmail.com
Sometime this year, we taxpayers will again receive another 'Economic
Stimulus' payment. This is indeed a very exciting program, and I'll
explain it by using a Q & A format:

A. The plan is for you to use the money to purchase a high-definition TV
set, thus stimulating the economy.

Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China?
A. Shut up.

Below is some helpful advice on how to best help the U.S. economy by
spending your stimulus check wisely: If you spend the stimulus money at
Walmart, the money will go to China or Sri Lanka. If you spend it on
gasoline, your money will go to the Arabs. If you purchase a computer,
it will go to India, Taiwan or China. If you purchase fruit and
vegetables, it will go to Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala. If you buy an
efficient car, it will go to Japan or Korea. If you purchase useless
stuff, it will go to Taiwan. If you pay your credit cards off, or buy
stock, it will go to management bonuses and they will hide it offshore.

Instead, keep the money in America by: 1) Spending it at yard sales,
or 2) Going to ball games, or 3) Spending it on prostitutes, or 4) Beer
or 5) Tattoos. (These are the only American businesses still operating
in the U.S.)

Conclusion: Go to a ball game with a tattooed prostitute that you met at
a yard sale and drink beer all day !

I am confused as to what you mean the problem has returned? What
problem? If you mean a problem as to your mail getting sent back
by the spam filters, then did you not see the email instructions
sent out a day or 2 ago that if anyone is getting their messages
bounced back to send me an offlist email requesting to be
whitelisted? I do not see any email from you on this matter.
Every request I have had, has been added and has no longer
received bounces that I know of. If somebody has, please let me
know. So, no problem has returned, I think the problem is failure
to request whitelist addition. I added you to the white list and
you should be good to go. There are plenty of other forums out
there if that is your thing, or the R/E Hitler list might be a
good choice for you. Just don't make anyone mad there or disagree
with them and you will be fine. If you want a link to sign up,
let me know. They may approve your membership at some point in
the future.

I spent my day removing the 11 hydraulic cylinders from my SL500 and shipping
them off to Top Hydraulics in Oregon for rebuilding.

While the job wasn't terribly challenging, it did involve working in a lot of
(car) body cavities, resulting in my hands and arms resembling hamburger. I
would liken it to replacing the heater blower motor in a 114 or 108, but less
time consuming.

I'll get the rebuilt cylinders back the end of this coming week, and since
we're observing a Federal holiday a week from Monday, I'll have a three day
weekend to put them back in and get my top working as intended.

That worked out very nicely.

Yesterday, I was vacuuming out the back of our refrigerator and put it
together with a set of 1/4" Craftsman deep well sockets. As I was putting
them away, I remembered that I had purchased them when I had been laid

I don't know. Being a public university, I would expect they are required
to post jobs for all to see. Some companies also have that policy, but
sometimes they write job ads tailored to one specific person. I ran
across a couple of those last week.

That's probably true, since my Ph.D. is in physics. I did, however, come

what my Bachelors degree is in and is the field I worked in for 20 years
before I went back to graduate school.

[MBZ] OT: Snowmobile repair

2014-01-10 Thread Curt Raymond
While you guys are all arguing about which of our worthless political factions
is worse I've been hard at work putting a snowmobile engine back together.

It had leaking crank seals which is an easy way to lean out your mixture and
burn down a piston. Lucky for me one of the seals leaked on the points and
dirtied them so I lost spark before I got into too much trouble.
I pulled the engine on the 2nd, new seals came shortly after but of course as
soon as I started tearing into it I realized I needed a gasket I hadn't
ordered. That came yesterday.

Today I put it all back together. I sealed the case halves with the leftover
Hylomar from the 240D head gasket job. (MB content) In fact that job helped me
in 2 ways, I wanted to chase the threads in the case and used the tap set I
bought for the 240D job.
Actually now that I think of it, I bought the rubber gloves for the 240D job
and Fred bought the rags I used for final cleaning on the case halves...

Anyway I want to let the hylomar thicken over night, it never really hardens
after all and I still need to clean the points again. DeoxIT to the rescue!

Re: [MBZ] OT: A temporary job for Craig

2014-01-10 Thread Richard Hattaway
I'm pretty sure the hiring of large numbers of people is on the decline.  Full
time hiring of anybody other than a college graduate ( no experience ) or a
graduate that's been out 5 years ( major experience ) is on the decline because
nobody can predict their company's future beyond the end of their management's
nose.  Hire the wrong guy, and you're likely to loose your job.  Management
must have a scapegoat.  *They* certainly didn't make a mistake.

So the armed forces, teaching, and government in general, will continue to hire
large numbers of folks.  Some companies will be around for a while longer.
Their girth makes it a necessity to hire in numbers.  Thinks IBM, General
Electric, Siemens.

The economy has been driven for years by small business.  In the same vein, it
has been driven for years by temporary labor.  I've found by personal
experience that working in a job that you know will end in 3-5 years max is a
good thing.  You get to experience all kinds of new things, and your network
gets huge in a hurry.  For the last 5 years I've been 'retired' but still work
for a company that contracts their engineering services all over Piedmont North
Carolina.  Variety is truly the spice of life.

I find that I don't miss the 'security' of an 8-5 job because that security
really doesn't exist any more anyway.   I left my last 'permanent' job in 1992.
I much prefer that my future not be at the whim of some blockhead who is only
interested in securing the guarantee of his job's existence.   Hand me the
tiller, sir, I know how to get where I'm going, and I sure as hell don't need
your incompetence and inefficiency  getting in my way.

I'm glad that Craig took the 'temp' job.  Everything on earth is temporary.  He
knows the size of his temporary window, which is something unknown by many of
the 'permanently' employed among us.  He can function within this window to
prove himself to the present powers that be, or promote himself to others.  I
wish him success and happiness.
