Re: [MBZ] OT - Prog Rock
I have KC on my pod, listen to it occasionally. If you like prog rock you can find a channel on itunes radio, which will play quite a bit of fairly obscure stuff, or you can pick KC as a favorite and set up your own custom channel that will play stuff deemed sufficiently similar by some algorithm. It is quite interesting what it comes up with. You can do this free, about every 15 min or so it will play a short advert for something. --R On 2/14/14 8:04 PM, Gary Hurst wrote: it's fairly famous and massively well regarded king crimson is guitarist robert fripp and whoever he happens to be hanging around with at the moment this is the original version with greg lake, who later pushed the limits of prog with less success in emerson, lake and palmer maybe teh best of its kind On Fri, Feb 14, 2014 at 7:10 PM, Mountain Man maontin@gmail.com wrote: Somehow I ended up here today and just... stayed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9P3ugzmmis In the Court of the Crimson King (1969) Does anyone else know this music? Re: [MBZ] Snowpocalypse 2014
I'd seen online calculators before and this one agrees more or less with what I'd seen although it seems to mark the BTUs for wood kind of high. Lately much as it galls me I've been running a little electric heater a few hours a day. We're paying $0.10/KWH for electric and $3.70/gal for fuel oil so the electric is much cheaper. Since we had no snow early in the season we've burned a lot more wood than usual. Typically the snow makes it harder to haul wood from the pile to the house (I stack it across the yard to keep bugs away from the house) but with no snow and super cold we've burned through 2/3 of the supply already. Considering a ton of coal sits on a 4x4 pallet 5 feet high its definitely a space saver and since it has no bugs I'd have no problem putting 2 pallets right behind the house which has good access for delivery truck. We could keep half a ton in the house at any given time in the space where we keep wood now. Riverside (the place you linked in your other email) is where I'd based on getting my coal from. Their delivery map suggests they'd deliver to us while the description of their delivery map suggests they would not. Worst case I could have them deliver to my uncle who lives closer to Boston, hitch the snowmobile trailer to the Ranger and make 2 trips... -Curt Date: Fri, 14 Feb 2014 21:40:31 -0700 From: Craig diese...@pisquared.net To: Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Subject: Re: [MBZ] Snowpocalypse 2014 Message-ID: 20140214214031.9ddf7b598c2a89f00a3d7...@pisquared.net Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 http://nepacrossroads.com/kb/anthracite Description of anthracite and comparisons to other type fuels. http://nepacrossroads.com/fuel-comparison-calculator.php It does the math for you I've got Angie mostly convinced. This generally references A Government Agency whose employees might often decline to name it or share the knowledge of their association with it. My niece works for The Company but is fairly open about it. Re: [MBZ] I'm back!
The woods is full of retired Company employees where I live. Some of them are open about where they worked, and some are downright paranoid. My interior decorator was retired from the CIA, as was her husband. Both were very open about it. A visiting nurse I knew told me about the first time she visited a certain retiree. All the shades were drawn, a light came on by a closed circuit camera on the porch, and she was asked a number of questions. Then a lock clicked and a voice told her to come in. The patient was sitting on a sofa with his hand under some newspapers. What tended to freak her out the most was that he never took his eyes off her the whole time. He provided his medical history but refused an exam; saying they would do that next time. Then he invited her to leave. Future visits got better but never to the point that he obviously trusted her; and there were always his eyes watching every move she made; something that always bothered her. Why did she suspect he was from a secret government agency? His insurance had a telltale FEP (Federal Employees Program) number, which wasn't specific for an intelligence agency, but very likely in this neighborhood. In the last 7 years we've probably burned 10-12 cords of wood of which I actually purchased 5. Even today I was telling a friend about my thoughts on going coal and he told me about a big ash tree in his mother's yard I could have. Even if we go coal I could still burn free wood. Wood is still a lot more work than coal even if you take the processing out of the equation. The coal fire you get burning then shake down and add coal twice a day. Wood fire you add wood once an hour, at least in my house we do, I don't stop the fire down any, if its lit its burning wide open. Well not wide open, I watch the stove thermometer and find the sweet spot where it puts out the most heat. Weren't they somehow involved with the people who developed Crown International, the old wire recorder and audio amplifier guys? Short answer: yes. Longer answer: HCJB started shortwave broadcasting in Quito, Ecuador on Christmas Day, 1931. Given that the call-sign prefix for Ecuador was HC, the founder, Clarence Jones, and his associates, chose the name HCJB, as an acronym (initialism) for the phrase in English, Heralding Christ Jesus' Blessings and in Spanish, Hoy Cristo Jesús Bendice. Clarence Moore (not to be confused with Clarence Jones), an engineer and minister from Elkhard, Indiana, was missionary with HCJB in Quito and invented the cubical quad antenna in 1942 to resolve issues caused by large coronal discharges that occurred while using a Yagi beam antenna in the thin air of higher altitudes (which would melt the aluminum elements). In 1947 he founded the International Radio and Electronics Corporation (IREC) to build rugged, open-reel tape recorders for use by missionaries in far-off parts of the world. In the 1960s, at the suggestion of his wife, Ruby, the company was renamed Crown International. During the Cold War in the 1970s, HCJB was broadcasting into Russia in the Russian language, but the Communists were jamming their broadcasts. The operating personnel went to the engineers and asked them, How much power would we need to override the jamming from Quito? The engineers figured it out and answered, Half-a-million watts. The operating personnel then asked, Can you build a transmitter that large?! It turns out that they could. In 1981 a 500,000-watt shortwave transmitter capable of overcoming any Russian jamming efforts was put into use. The transmitter was designed and built by HCJB Engineers at facilities loaned by Clarence Moore at Crown International in Elkhart, Indiana. After the construction was complete, the engineering team was disbanded. After the Iron Curtain fell, HCJB began getting inquiries from those who were behind the Iron Curtain, We have listened to you for years on shortwave radio. Now we would like to set up our own station in our own city. With several requests like that, they started looking into what it would take. Clarence Moore gave HCJB the building across the street from Crown International and in 1986 the engineering team was reconstituted. They came up with a 10 Watt FM broadcast station that would fit in four suitcases. A team could go into a city with the four suitcases and in a week, a new FM station would be on the air. They have also been involved in many other activities. The engineering team has continued up to the present in the building Clarence Moore gave HCJB as the HCJB Global Technology Center, the organization that is interested in me and which I will be visiting in March. I listened to The Voice of the Andes from Quito, Ecuador on shortwave during the 1970s which must have been after they went up to a half million watts since you could nearly always get it when the Dutch transmitter on Bonaire and other European repeaters couldn't be tuned in; never mind direct European stations, Radio Moscow, Albania, and others. BBC was usually available but I forget where their Caribbean repeater was. Not absolutely sure if the Voice of the Andes was HCJB, but I seem to remember that it was. I had (still have) a top-of-the-line Sony portable shortware which had a couple of adjustments that would separate closely spaced stations. It was invaluable when there was only one hole in the ether because all the countries would crowd in and an ordinary SW couldn't separate one out to listen to it. Gerrywith more than you probably wanted to know. On 2/15/2014 10:14 PM, Craig wrote: On Sat, 15 Feb 2014 06:58:22 -0500 Dan Penoff d...@penoff.com wrote: I worked on their generator years ago. Free wood is easy to get if you live in a woodsy neighborhood around here (DC, Mongtomery CO, MD). Wait for the sound of the commercial chain saw brigade, then track them down and volunteer to take the wood off their hands so they don't have to haul it to the dump. Most suburbanites abhor firewood for fear of termites. The wood crew will gladly dumb unsplit wood cut to length in your driveway. Re: [MBZ] Auto darkening helmet won't.
Most auto-dark helmets are solar charged.. Lay it in the sunlight for a few hrs and I'll bet your problem goes away. Low battery charge = slow response time.. Just above or below the lens, there will be a small solar panel.. if you don't weld often.. it gets no charge.. if you keep helmet in dark.. no charge.. On Sat, Feb 15, 2014 at 8:14 PM, M.
