Re: [MBZ] 123 fog lights

2014-04-25 Thread Curt Raymond
Well rather than just keep arguing I figured it was time somebody got some
proof one way or the other so I headed out to my '78 240D. I'd forgotten how
much has to come apart to see the fog lights.

So here we go, perfectly normal 123 lights:

There are screws top and bottom to remove the bezel:

Ugh, it looked better on my phone... Looks like 1 305 301 026 but I'd have to
check again to be sure. The same number is cast into the glass on the face.

So there we go, anybody got pics of sealed beam fog lights?

Well guysI just went and looked at my fog lights on my 83 300D. The fog
bulbs appear to be sealed beam just like the hi/lo headlights in the fitting
beside them. The fog bulbs have Bosch Germany embossed in the glass in the
middle of them. The fixtures that the bulbs sit in have Bosch sticker on the
back of them. But the fogs are definitely sealed beam, not some replaceable
bulb like are in my other newer vehicles. Now I purchased the 83 300D from a
young Georgia Tech grad whose mother gave it to him after inheriting it from
her father who was the original purchaser in South Carolina. The young man told
me he would not change anything on the car because he was afraid his mother
would be mad at him. Hence, the car was all original with 165,000 miles on it
when I purchased it about 18 years ago.
Anyway, I don't think they are aftermarket. If I care enough about this issue,
I may get into my garage attic and dig out my backup set and see what they are,
but as memory serves, they are identical to the set currently on the car.
Just how I see it, your visions my differ...
Best Wishes,
Roger

[MBZ] Desperately seeking turbo + finder's fee!

2014-04-25 Thread Andrew Strasfogel
I am offering a finder's fee to anyone who can locate a functioning
turbocharger from a *1985* W123 wagon, coupe, or sedan. No other MY will
do.

I will pay a reasonable price for the turbo, and in addition will reward
the broker with one (1) jar of my internet-famous jalapeno pepper jelly,
made from all-natural resources, including peppers grown organically in the
northwest Washington, D.C. This incomparable condiment suits all political
persuasions: goes great with brie cheese (for liberals), oatmeal (pour les
Francais), and roast chicken and griled lamb chops (RWers).

I need this part ASAP - the turbo I purchased is defective and there is no
replacement.

Thanks in advance, and may the scavenger hunt begin.

Maybe, but I have to admit that I wonder why you have 2 MB wagons.
Surely one would be sufficient for your needs.
Given that the 85 seems to be a problem, it might be much easier for you
if you swapped it for something that was more common and less trouble to
source pieces for.

However, I have one concern. Your fog light doesn't look very yellow. Mine
are a deep amber/yellow color, far more so than what yours looks, at least in
your picture. Does the front of your bulb / glass assembly say Bosch Germany

Surely one would be sufficient for your needs.

Re: [MBZ] 123 fog lights

2014-04-25 Thread Curt Raymond
Very astute of you Roger. :)

Pre-'82 the fog lights were clear. Check back through the last couple days, we
covered it. I was going to switch to amber but Dwight talked me out of it since
it wouldn't be correct.

Yeah Bosch Germany. I'm trying to think of how many of this type I've had. I
think if I count both amber and clear I'm going to say 9 or 10. It baffles me
that in that time I've never seen a sealed beam considering both you and Max
insist that yours are sealed beam.

The $20 question right now is when you checked yours the other day did you
actually look at the back of the bulb or just look at the front and see what
you expected to see? I think from the front it'd be tough to tell the
difference.

Actually, can you get the part number off the front of your lens? If we had
that and it matched my amber spare (provided I can find it) that might help.

Curt,
I'll now have to get into my garage attic and take apart my spare assembly.
However, I have one concern. Your fog light doesn't look very yellow. Mine
are a deep amber/yellow color, far more so than what yours looks, at least in
your picture. Does the front of your bulb / glass assembly say Bosch Germany
as mine do?
Hopefully this weekend,
Best Wishes,

I need to check the exact years, but I know they started in 1997 or 1998 and
through the end of production for the R129 (SL500/500SL) chassis. I'll get back

Very astute of you Roger. :)

Pre-'82 the fog lights were clear. Check back through the last couple days,
we covered it. I was going to switch to amber but Dwight talked me out of it
since it wouldn't be correct.

Yeah Bosch Germany. I'm trying to think of how many of this type I've had.
I think if I count both amber and clear I'm going to say 9 or 10. It baffles
me that in that time I've never seen a sealed beam considering both you and
Max insist that yours are sealed beam.

Mine
are a deep amber/yellow color, far more so than what yours looks, at least
in your picture. Does the front of your bulb / glass assembly say Bosch
Germany as mine do?

Hopefully this weekend,
Best Wishes,

[MBZ] more credit card fraud

2014-04-25 Thread Kaleb C. Striplin
about a 2 months ago I had some fraudulent charges on my capital
one card to some sort of online gaming site it appears. I get
emailed whenever their are transactions on this card. Today got
an email had a transaction, strange. Logged into their site, had
10 back to back today ranging from $10 to $50 to a couple of other
online gaming sites. What is strange is when it happened last
time they issued a completely different card number. What is even
more strange is I got a letter in the main from one of my other
credit cards they suspected fraud on it and wanted to talk to me.
I called them, there was a charge from some online merchant I did
not know for $700 something that was declined and wanted to know
if it was me. It was not so they are issuing me a new number on
that one as well. So I got to get to the bottom of this. When it
happened the first time I thought 16 year old may have stole my
card and used it, thinking the worse. He does not play games or
do gaming crap. I really do not think it was him. My only other
thoughts are maybe I have a virus or spyware on one of the
computers. I have ran virus scans and nothing turns up. What is
a good maleware tool to scan it with? One other though was I
THINK I MAY have used these 2 cars on the cruise last month, I
wonder if they got my number that way? I know I used one of the
cards on the cruise for sure, and I think I may have used the
other as well on that trip. That is the only common link I can
think of.

Could be something as simple as someone stole your mail.
Do you get online bills? Or through the mail?

Re: [MBZ] more credit card fraud

2014-04-25 Thread Rich Thomas
A couple weeks ago the bank called my wife to tell her that our HELOC
had been compromised somehow (they were vague, and how they determined
this), but it appeared to be only related to her somehow. Anyway, we
have our bank accounts and kids' accts at the same bank and all linked
so we can transfer money around easily. All those accounts and our
mortgage accts had to be number regenerated, new debit/credit cards.
This is the second time that has happened in like 4 or 5 years but this
was different, through the mortgage side. The bank was not sure how it
might have happened but I am thinking my wife accessed the account or
did some sort of payment on an unsecure network in her travels. It
could have been related to the hack of the SC tax agency a few years
back and just now showing up somehow.

These guys are pretty sophisticated, it is a global business how.
