Only place it can come out unless you have a leak somewhere. Once the coolant starts to boil it will lift the pressure relief in the cap. Most OEM thermostats from MB have a bleed valve, so boiling coolant can leak through to the upper radiator hose. I would back-flush the radiator too, just in case there is something in there that sometimes interferes with flow. Dimitri, Is there a valve on this car between the engine and the heater valve? Also, IIRC, the heater valves on that car look as though they might be frozen. Check for actual valve movement with lever movement. I'm not sure if there is a valve. The heat worked last week so I don't think that's the prob. There is just no coolant circulation into heater core for some reason. Re: [MBZ] Dwight and Curt's former 240D
Check the diagram: http://pt709.synology.me/615_cooling.pdf There is a direct, unobstructed path from the cooling passages in the head through the top radiator hose to the top of the radiator. The thermostat is in the return path from the bottom of the radiator to the water pump. Even with zero radiator flow, hot coolant (and gasses) will migrate to the top of the radiator by convection. Bubbles could indicate a head gasket leak but they could also indicate boiling coolant from overheating caused by lack of coolant flow because the thermostat didn't open. In a cold condition, the thermostat is designed to totally shut off the return flow from the lower radiator hose and circulate all of the hot coolant right back into the block via the water pump (except for a small flow through the heater (does the heater work?). Based on reports on Okibenz, these thermostats have a surprisingly high infant mortality rate. You should be able to use the adapters (glow or injector) from a Diesel compression tester kit to do a leakdown test. But if the leak only occurs at high pressure or high temp, you won't see it this way. -Original Message- From: Mercedes [mailto:mercedes-boun...@okiebenz.com] On Behalf Of Curt Raymond via Mercedes Sent: Sunday, November 30, 2014 7:44 AM To: Curly McLain; dsereta...@yahoo.com; Mercedes Discussion List Subject: Re: [MBZ] Dwight and Curt's former 240D Please notify explain why a bad thermostat would make the coolant come out the radiator neck. Re: [MBZ] OT - Espresso machine
I just looked at his espresso products. I may order a bag of each to try out. I haven’t sourced any good espresso around here. Starbucks is nasty and burnt, as they have no idea what espresso really is. I started out on their stuff years ago (late 80s) when there wasn’t much else around. After a few trips to Europe where I got to taste “real” espresso, I realized their stuff was little more than burnt coffee beans. Yuck. I see that Lavazza Supercrema and Crema E Aroma get good overall reviews wherever I look. I wish I could get some kind of sampler from a place like Lavazza so I could figure out what I like best before dropping $20+ on a bag of beans. Most of the samplers I see advertised online are upwards of $60 and have one pound bags. I would rather find something with half pound bags so I don’t end up tossing a lot of beans if I don’t like it. I looked at illy, but the reviews weren’t that great and it’s flipping expensive! I would have to be really, really hooked on the stuff to deal with the cost. There is a local roaster, but they’re more in tune with the Cuban population so I have some concerns about their espresso. Given the choice, I would rather start out with an Italian brand so I know I’m getting something a bit more likely to be authentic. I may see if I can get a hold of Darren and see if he sells samples. Thanks! [MBZ] OT $36 washing machine leak fix
Last week, the clothes washer started leaking during operation. It had leaked water months ago, which we found was due to too much soap, but since then we'd been careful to put in less soap. I wasn't looking forward to diagnosing and fixing this leak, mainly because the dryer is stacked on top of the front-loading washer, and we've installed wire shelving on both sides of and over the top of this stack in the laundry room. In order to take the dryer off the washer and make room to take the washer apart, we'd have to shift a lot of stuff out of the way. Tonight SWMBO started a load, so I decided to watch the machine for a bit to see if I could spot the source of the leak. Sure enough, it was easy to see the leak was from the door seal, an obvious steady seep of water running down the front of the machine. At this point my spirit rose; I can replace a door seal in situ, won't have to move all the cra-- I mean stuff. I stopped the machine to have a closer look, and inside the fold of the rubber seal, I found my swiss army knife which had gone missing about a week before! Cleaned off some lint and soap scum from the door and seal, closed it up and re-started the load. No more leak! Why a $36 dollar repair bill? That was the cost of my replacement knife. If I'd taken a look sooner (before I bought the replacement) it would have been a free fix, but I consider this a better outcome. New knife has more tools (Victorinox MiniChamp) than my old knife, which will now become the back-up. -- - Max Charleston SC ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com All posts are the result of individual contributors and as such, those individuals are responsible for the content of the post. Only Darren on the subscription list has an address that in no way identifies the owner, so I didn’t want to send something to it blind. If you have it or know the last time he was on the list let me know and I’ll look up his messages…. Or perhaps I gotta go to the high priced vitamin store to find non-alkalized cocoa? I could like cocoa in coffee. What is mocha? I ordered mocha at $s and it was pure frufru sweet hot cocoa, coffee flavor was gone. You guys are too hard on $s. They can make a decent cuppa, I think. I don't mind their beans either. A while ago I tried some of their blonde and kinda liked it. When I order latte, I order it whole milk (or breve - with half/half), double, short, no foam - pure coffee with cream, no frufru. The wasteland of suburbia here far west from town has no local roasters. I used to have a neighbor that roasted but he moved to Miami a decade ago. Please let us know, Dan, if Darren has a BowTruss sampler pack for okiebenz friends. mao ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com All posts are the result of individual contributors and as such, those individuals are responsible for the content of the post. The only thing I get at Starbucks is a tall blonde, add some sugar. Part of the reason I don't like their espresso: they serve it in a paper cup, and it gets cold almost immediately.
