I fill mine with low volatility "summer gas" in September,
and start transferring the leftovers to the mower after
the sale of high vapor pressure stuff is banned again in
the spring.

Just shy of three hours and the power was back on, no
problems whatsoever.  Shut off the fuel cock and let it
run dry, switched the house back over to shore power.

Didn't use that much fuel, will probably have to siphon
a bunch out to fill the snowblower tomorrow!

Last thing I want is 4 gallons of gas going stale in that
thing.

Probably propane gas, its probably got a propane stove too, I think you can see
it beside the sink. If you're going to be hauling a propane bottle around you

I wonder if you could setup propane injection for added hill climbing power.
The lack of detailed inside pics (or an engine pic) is disturbing.

I have the more expensive of the two models they sold a couple of years ago
- it works great where it will fit. It doesn't work so great with the right
angle mirror - I think it's trying to focus on the mirror or something. I
used it when checking the oil pick-up tube in the O-470 Continental and
when cleaning the wing for the installation of a new fuel bladder. For the
latter job, a cheap web cam and a laptop worked better - wider angle of
view.

Yes, I have had monovalve problems like everyone else. Once they were
fixed, however, they didn't break again, like most Mercedes repairs.

I am not a big fan of the manual s/r in my two 123 wagons because I have
two surgically repaired shoulders (one of each), but at least I don't have
to stop the car and get out of the driver's seat to adjust them, as would
be the case if the cars had crank windows.

The sunroof is manual - those a re far superior to the electric ones in my
experience (if you HAVE to have a hole in the roof). I wonder if the
staining around the sunroof and headliner is from using contact cement to
re-attach the headliner?

These look exactly like my Milwaukee borescope that I received as a gift

I would guess it is the same tool or a Chinese knockoff.

I'll send it to you (or you can drive up and get it) if you like and you can

Re: [MBZ] Genny, again

2015-12-18 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
Is that AVGAS? AFAIK AVGAS doesn't have ethanol while most MOGAS does.
I put 1oz of Seafoam gas additive per gallon of gas into every can of gas I
buy. Additionally equipment thats going to sit (like the snowblower over the
summer) gets 1oz per gallon during storage. Since I've started doing that my
problems with bad gas have gone way down.I did have to clean a carb and rebuild
a fuel pump this fall for a snowmobile but its the one I bought last spring so
it could have already been in trouble when I got it and in fact looking back it
had a stumble I couldn't really account for...
The shutoff is suspenders and belt. My lawnmower has a shutoff and I run it out
every time I shut it down. It starts fantastically well, like second or third
pull every time I start it.
If Angie is going to start the lawnmower the choke will inevitably stick on and
it won't start. She'll call me (in the Philippines for instance) and I'll
explain that the choke sticks sometimes and all you have to do is tug on the
little rod next to the carb and it'll come loose. She'll claim she's done that
and it still won't start. I'll get home, pull the choke open and it'll start in
a big cloud of smoke from all the gas in the exhaust...

Re: [MBZ] 240D Cabriolet Motors, Raleigh ACC

2015-12-18 Thread Curly McLain via Mercedes
ACC is of NO value over manual controls, IF it runs. It is actually
of LESS value, because your options are very limited.

ACC is disastrously expensive to repair and a total PITA to try to
diagnose. BY FAR the most money I have spent to keep MBs on the road
is for the fracking ACCMore than I spent for most cars i've ever
owned. Costs more than a 603 head.

ACC allows NO differentiation of left side/right side.

ACC does not allow you have the defrost on without the blower going
FULL BLAST! It is very annoying. This is by far my greatest
annoyance. countless nights, and some days, I've had to drive with
one hand while switching the DEF on, then the EC, back and forth for
6 or 8 hours. Manual controls let you run def with no blower (air
circ from car moving) or blower at any speed.

My total cost for maintaining manual heating/defrost over 40 years is
a dollar two for some o-rings and a little waterpump grease.

IMHO, the absolute epitome of heater/Defrost is the 110/111/112/113
series, and carried over into 114/115, but not the 116.

My ideal new MB if money was no object: OM603 engine (yeah, the car
would have to be shipped to lower slobovia) 5 speed trans with diff
gearing near 3.0, manual driver's window and LR window. Electric RF
and RR windows, Rear window Def, Vacuum locks, ala 123, A key switch
and key lock doors, ala 123, tars on no less than 65 profile, manual
sunroof, DIN1 hole for a radio, manual seats, outside mirrors, both
sides, 2 wipers.

Actually, except for ACC and a few electric things I don't want, an
SDL is pretty close. 123.123.10 is pretty close also.

I'd love to walk into the MB stealership and tell em I want a car
built to my spec, then give em these specs, and show em the cash.
They'd fall all over themselves until the factory tells em "no way."
Then they'd throw me out.

ACC is WONDERFUL when it works - but is a real pain in the ass when it
doesn't.

Just do a search for an axle or differential. go the page with the
lowest prices, then start calling them for LCAs. THey give you the
phone numbers. The junkyard doesn't know you got their phone number
from car-part, but it sorts the ones who want to sell parts, not put
it on the shelf with a high price, and IF they have an axle or a

Yes, I have had monovalve problems like everyone else. Once they were
fixed, however, they didn't break again, like most Mercedes repairs.

I am not a big fan of the manual s/r in my two 123 wagons because I have
two surgically repaired shoulders (one of each), but at least I don't have
to stop the car and get out of the driver's seat to adjust them, as would
be the case if the cars had crank windows.

I don't have comparative statistics (not so easy to find unbiased info), but
my impression is that rail shipments go through populated areas and have
killed many people. One incident I read about in Quebec killed 47. The stuff
I read about pipelines is that they pollute when there are leaks, and that
the leaks are fewer, but spill more oil. My bias goes to saving more lives.

The people of Nebraska REALLY didn't want it. The company building the pipeline
made a huge mistake threatening the people of Nebraska with eminent domain.
They basically got told they could take their domain and shove it. Without
Nebraska onboard Keystone XL was pretty much in trouble. Obama followed the
will of the people of Nebraska.
Whats funny is that most of those who really fought it in Nebraska said they'd
probably have worked with the pipeline folks if they hadn't been threatened at
the start...

The pipeline would have terminated at Cushing, OK - right in the center of
the current record breaking earthquake activity - how safe is that for a
pipeline? There is no "safe" way to move large quantities of anything, so
you make your choice and live with the consequences. Isn't the option they
are taking now to pipe or ship the oil to the Canadian west coast?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Search eBay for - Mercedes w123 rear control arm‎ -. There are a couple, but
not cheap. There is one in Rudyard MI, probably not too far from Mitch.

You might try Silver Star in AZ.
