Re: [MBZ] Need MacBook -- no, iMac

2016-01-27 Thread Rich Thomas via Mercedes

I've got one I'm about ready to throw out the window...

I reinstalled the TM backup on the thing onto the new HDD, still no
worky the OS was pretty much locking up on startup or shortly after. I
managed to do a diagnostic and it showed (only) the memory was OK (these
were new memory sticks I put in a year or two ago) but it was still
hanging up. Reinstalled the OS (10.6.4 on the DVD) fresh after a few
false starts, still was hanging, then tried to update to 10.6.8 which
was on the TM reinstall. That got hung up trying to run it off a USB
stick. So then I tried to install the OS on the SSD and it just hung
up. I'm thinking at this point that the mobo has some serious gork
issues but I'm not sure how to diagnostics on that part of the system as
the startup D option only did a memory check.

I might take it into the apple genii next week and see if they can do a
deeper diagnostic on it, find out if the board is gorked or what. Note
that this was pretty much what it was doing before I changed the HDD
out, though the diagnostics at that point said it was overheating. It
has worked OK in an external box.

Here's an example for around $800. You have to keep checking until the MacBook
you want appears. Then, you have to buy it fast before it's sold out.
http://www.apple.com/shop/product/FD101LL/A/refurbished-133-inch-macBook-pro-25ghz-dual-core-intel-i5

I bought one for $800 several years ago, played with it a while, and then gave
it to my granddaughter. After a trip to the Apple Store in Orlando to fix
problems with the Snow Leopard OS, it worked well and has had no further
problems. I had tried to load Snow Leopard, but there was some sort of problem;
possibly with the disk.

[MBZ] [ SPAM ] Re: Auction fun

I rented a scuzuki viagra in chile once. Small but serviceable.

GLK

I drove the wagon through the auction. 255k miles. $600 high bid. Probably a
no sale. It has on airbag (SRS), ABS, antiskid lights. That could get pretty
expensive. Sounded like a rear axle bearing going out. There was something
weird in the center console. I think it had a swing up cover but did not have
time to investigate. whatever it was, the inside of this box was coated with
what looked like white yeast growth. Maybe it would clean up ok, but I didn't
want to stick my finger into whatever it was. It could have been highly
oxidized aluminum.

The GLK looked nice. I have liked them since 2009, when i first saw one on the
road outside the factory in AL. I think they were aimed at the toada RAV. Too
bad they dropped the one newish vehicle I would not mind owning.

Most stuff today was junk. One toada was a jail cell. once i drive it through
the auction, i could not get out. Both inside door handles were broken out
completely. I finally had to put the window down and open the door from the
outside. The the window would not go up again.

The one POS BMW ragtop was back again. Today the window was down and had a
garbage sack taped over it.

The most interesting thing I drove was a Scuzuki XL-7. The seat was really
nice, it sits nice, with good visibility, and comfort. It had 200k and was
pretty decent, where the nissans with 150k are all clapped out and many of the
toadas and hondogs, frods, shoveys, and dogdes have a lot of broken stuff at
175k. My only prior exposure to a scuzuki was the samuri my cousin had long
ago. He liked his, but the samuris I saw were pretty much ready for the
crusher at 50k miles.

I was surprised that I liked it. I would not buy one, because it has no
advantage over a grand caravan for the same fuel cost.

Windows is surprisingly easy too.
Select the picture file(s) you want to send;
Right click on it/them to open a drop-down list;
Select "send to";
Select "email recipient";
And then select the desired resolution.

[MBZ] Auction fun

2016-01-27 Thread Curly McLain via Mercedes

Returning this week:

2001 E320 wagon.
the SLK, yes, again
190D 2.3

New victims
white E320 probably 2010 or newer
C300probably 2010 or newer
GLK

I drove the wagon through the auction. 255k miles. $600 high bid.
Probably a no sale. It has on airbag (SRS), ABS, antiskid lights.
That could get pretty expensive. Sounded like a rear axle bearing
going out. There was something weird in the center console. I
think it had a swing up cover but did not have time to investigate.
whatever it was, the inside of this box was coated with what looked
like white yeast growth. Maybe it would clean up ok, but I didn't
want to stick my finger into whatever it was. It could have been
highly oxidized aluminum.

The GLK looked nice. I have liked them since 2009, when i first saw
one on the road outside the factory in AL. I think they were aimed
at the toada RAV. Too bad they dropped the one newish vehicle I
would not mind owning.

Most stuff today was junk. One toada was a jail cell. once i drive
it through the auction, i could not get out. Both inside door
handles were broken out completely. I finally had to put the window
down and open the door from the outside. The the window would not go
up again.

The one POS BMW ragtop was back again. Today the window was down and
had a garbage sack taped over it.

The most interesting thing I drove was a Scuzuki XL-7. The seat was
really nice, it sits nice, with good visibility, and comfort. It had
200k and was pretty decent, where the nissans with 150k are all
clapped out and many of the toadas and hondogs, frods, shoveys, and
dogdes have a lot of broken stuff at 175k. My only prior exposure
to a scuzuki was the samuri my cousin had long ago. He liked his,
but the samuris I saw were pretty much ready for the crusher at 50k
miles.

I was surprised that I liked it. I would not buy one, because it has
no advantage over a grand caravan for the same fuel cost.

I'd go with a tow or flatbed as well, those leaks probably have gotten
worse instead of better, it may be too weak and rough-running to get home
safely, or strand you along the way and then you may be forced into the tow
truck at the car's schedule instead of yours.

Re: [MBZ] OT Clintons Part 1

2016-01-27 Thread Bob via Mercedes
Here you go...

Bob--- Begin Message ---

Clinton casualty list (compiled from sources I did not record):
??/??/86 1.) Russell Welch, an Arkansas State Police Investigator, was
stricken with what his doctor called “military-grade” anthrax poisoning during
his probe of Mena drug operations.
??/??/86 2.) Alder Berriman (Barry) Seal, the head of the cocaine
smuggling operation at Mena airport, was murdered.
08/23/87 3.) Kevin Ives, a teenager who lived near Mena, AR, was run over
by a train close to Mena. First ruled a suicide, a later autopsy showed he
was murdered before he was run over by the train. He may have gotten too
curious about air drops he had seen in the nearby countryside.
08/23/87 4.) Don Henry, a friend of Kevin Ives, was also run over by the
train on the same night. His death was initially ruled a suicide, too, but a
later autopsy showed he was also murdered before he was run over by the
train.
Initial cause of death reported to be resulting from falling asleep on
railroad tracks in Arkansas on Aug. 23, 1987. This initial ruling was reported
by state medical examiner Fahmy Malak. It was later determined that Kevin
died from a crushed skull and that Don had been stabbed in the back prior
to being placed on the tracks. Rumors indicate that they might have stumbled
upon the Mena drug operation.
04/??/88 5.) Keith Coney, an individual who claimed to have information
about the deaths of Kevin Ives and Don Henry, was fleeing an attacker on his
motorcycle, when he slammed into the back of a truck. Police ruled it a “
traffic fatality”.
11/??/88 6.) Keith McKaskle, another person who claimed to have
information about the Ives-Henry murders, was brutally stabbed to death in his
home.
He knew someone was after him so he had said goodbye to his friends and
family.
01/??/89 7.) Gregory Collins, another person who claimed to have
information about the Ives-Henry, Died from a gunshot wound to the head in
Jan.
1989.
04/??/89 8.) Jeff Rhodes, another person who claimed to have information
about the Ives-Henry murders, was shot in the head. His burned body was
found in the city dump, with his hands, feet, and head partially severed.
?? 9.) James Milan - held information on the Ives/Henry deaths. Was
decapitated; state examiner Fahmy Malak initially ruled death by natural
causes.
10.) Richard Winters, another person who claimed to have
information about the Ives-Henry murders, was killed by a man using a
sawed-off
shotgun. Also a suspect in the deaths of Ives/Henry. Was killed in a robbery
in July 1989 which was subsequently proved to be a setup.
06/??/90 11.) Jordan Ketelson, another person who claimed to have
information about the Ives-Henry murders, died of a shotgun blast to the head.
Found shot to death in the front seat of his pickup on June 1990.
A total of six individuals that claimed to have information about the
Ives-Henry murders ended up being murdered themselves. Not one arrest was ever
made with regard to these murders or the “activities” at Mena. It is
highly unlikely that this could have occurred without the cooperation of the
authorities.
INSLAW was a small software company whose software (PROMIS) was allegedly
stolen by the Dept. of Justice. Tactics utilized by the Dept. of Justice
during this procurement eventually forced INSLAW into bankruptcy. The
lawsuits and ensuing investigations resulted in many deaths as itemized in the
following listing:
02/??/87 12.) Larry Guerin - Was killed in Feb. 1987 while investigating
the INSLAW case.
01/31/91 13.) Alan Standorf - Electronic Intelligence employee for the
National Security Agency was a source of information to Danny Casalaro who was
investigating INSLAW and BCCI. His body was found in the backseat of his
car at Wash. National Airport on Jan 31, 1991.
04/05/91 14.) Dennis Eisman - Attorney involved in the INSLAW case. Found
shot to death on April 5, 1991.
08/10/91 15.) Danny Casalaro - Free lance reporter and writer who was
investigating several of the Clinton Scandals, including INSLAW, BCCI and the
October Surprise. Found dead in his bathtub in his Sheraton Hotel room in
Martinsburg, Virginia on Aug 10, 1991. His wrists were slashed 10 times and
the documentation on the cases he was working on was missing. He had earlier
warned his family that his life was in danger and if he was found dead due
to an apparent accident or suicide, not to believe it.
11/01/92 16 - 20.) Ian Spiro - Held supporting documentation for grand
jury proceedings on the INSLAW case. His wife and 3 children were found
murdered on Nov 1, 1992 in their home with gunshot wounds to the head. Ian’s
body
was found several days later in a parked car on the Borego Desert. Death
was determined to be ingestion of cyanide. FBI report indicated that Ian had
murdered his family and committed suicide.
04/??/96 21.) John Crawford - Attorney

Blowby _could_ cause a pressurized crankcase - if the drain
tube continues down into the oil bath kinda like the dipstick
tube. If so, I would expect the oil to climb the dipstick
tube also.

I had this happen in a OM617. Ring failure caused oil to
pump out the dipstick tube.

If there is pressure on what is supposed to be a oil
drain, there will be no place for the supply oil to go so the
turbo will no be properly oiled.

How much pressure is behind the drain? Can you stop the flow
with you finger over the pipe?

Sounds to me like you have a strange problem! But I think
you knew that already...

Re: [MBZ] for those with spare pocket change

2016-01-27 Thread Mitch Haley via Mercedes
I don't recall cheap W121s since the early 1980s, but I remember an employer
asking something like $7500 for an ugly brown (but perfect condition) 280SL
Pagoda in 1988 and I thought it overpriced and boring. (and 35 years ago, cheap
for a W121 meant it cost as much as a 914 Porch)

I agree with Andrew on the W113, it's boring.
But, IMO, the W121 190SL was an attractive car, as least as much so as a
1958-1962 Corvette.

Gerry,

Apple refurbs come equipped no differently than a brand new device. The only
difference might be the lack of retail packaging, otherwise, you can’t tell the
difference between new and refurb.

In over 20+ years of Apple ownership, I have never bought one of their
computers new. Always refurbs. If it’s a laptop I us the extra $$$ to buy
AppleCare for it off of a retailer’s site, like eBay, where it’s cheaper.

Yeah, if there was one thing I would deduct points for on this car, that would
be it. I never understood the attraction of chrome wheels on an S class car.

I emailed them about a swap just for grins. Haven't gotten a reply.

That reminds me, there is one of the dizzels with the fender vents
parked at the mech Oral Fipps on this island, he gets these things and
it costs too much to fix them and they sit there for awhile until he
unloads them. I don't know if this is the case with this car, I just
saw it there on a drive-by.

I can't speak for Windoze or 'nix email clients, but Apple Mail gives you
several choices of sizes when you attach pictures to a message. If you use
Apple Mail you can see this feature with the attachment highlighted - there
will be a small drop down menu in the lower right portion of the message header
that gives you 3-4 choices of sizes for the attachment.
