This is the suspected full rebuild of hard lines. They will be flushing and
testing all lines. That should cover me for the next decade on stopping.

Ignorance is bliss. Had I know that the thing was basically unsafe at any
speed above a walk, I may have take a moment or two more to consider the
project. Not that it would have really stopped me. I am sort of confounded
that the whole braking system was just crap and one pedal push away from
killing me. Given the work into the brakes I have done, the estimate to make
it right was cut to a third or the last estimate which did not include this new
area of failure.

I think that The Hillster, CCF, H-> Hell, should just come out of the closet

bent as a hanger. If she would fess up that she is more inclined to be into…
not Bill, or any other XY sort, that would boost her numbers through the roof.
I doubt the real lefty sorts would raise a fuss, or even thems from the middle

we have put up with Bruce Jenner becoming a … not Bruce, then we can withstand

[MBZ] Polei goes to the Doctor

2016-11-01 Thread clay via Mercedes
The brakes finally beat me.

I used the vacuum pump method to attempt to bleed, but just ended up with
bubbles. I hooked the shop vac to a bunch of reducers and mated that to the
bleed vessel. All that did was make bubbles. The soft lines out back would
not release. Not with the 11mm line wrench, not with the blue wrench, not with
a 7/16 wrench. The parking brake shoes did not look bad, but the surface
looked to be really thin. I have a replacement set of shoes and springs, so
did not try to adjust the old shoes so that I could put the fresh rotors on
with ease.

I was able to get her off the ramps and even stopped! I was not sure that
would happen. The parking brake did not engage, not a surprise. Front brakes
were no worse for wear. I called the local brake shop and let them know what
was up. They agreed to use my new parts if there were a need. Sounded good,
so I made an appointment for this morning.

I got in right on time, talked to the tech while he had the car up on the lift
and we went over what I had done, what was not happening and what he thought he
could do. Turned out he misunderstood what the hang up was, but once he clued
in that there was nothing in the hard line coming from the front, he quit
futzing around with the rear lines and dropped the car to take a look at the
front of the car around the reservoir. AND THERE we found the offending leak
out the front line that heads to the rear hard line. The Brake Line God was
out for a few days, as he had a fresh baby that was popped out of the oven a
few months early and is residing in the NICU. The tech working my car was good
for doing brake jobs, but not for making lines. That put a damper on the day,
so I swallowed hard, agreed to wait a day and contemplate the need for
extensive brake line replacements.

My bending is pretty ok. The lines are easy enough to play with. The flaring,
and spatial orientation is not that hot yet. I will need to do much more
practice to get both of those talents viable. The brake issues just seemed to
build on each other, so time for a guy with a lift, a roof, and knowledge to
tackle this, instead of a shade tree monkey out in the rain squirming around in
the muck.

As a consolation, after walking the two miles home (buses just do not run the
way a person wants to go) in the rain, I rebuilt an ATE caliper set for
installation on the parts shelf to be available for either the R107, or any
future w114/115/116/123/126.

matter. For people in lopsided states, like CA, NY, NJ, etc., their

I ordered a hitch from etrailer.com and put it on the ML, they might
have one to fit your car if you haven't already got one

[MBZ] Deoxit Tale

2016-11-01 Thread archer75--- via Mercedes

A few months ago the Genie screw type overheard door began acting up, so I
sprayed all the moving parts with a Liquid Wrench preparation that was
specifically for overhead doors. It worked fine after that treatment for 2 or 3
weeks, then started acting up again. I sprayed it again, and it behave again
for a week or ten days.
Then it began even stranger kinds of behaviour and I began to suspect an
electronic problem since the infrared safety beam would flicker after each of
its conniptions.
Finally, I called an internet company that specialized in overhead door parts,
and they suggested replacing the main circuit board, so I ordered one.

I had already sprayed Deoxit on the infrared units connections and the
connectors on the circuit boards, but had not removed and re-installed them, so
on a hunch I managed to pull the connector on the PC board partially out and
soak it with Deoxit.
The door still acted up. So much for Deoxit.
A day later I pushed the button to raise the door, expecting I would have to
move it up and down until it fully opened, but the door smoothly opened like it
did when it was new 20 years ago.
On return from town it also worked flawlessly. It's been doing that now for
several days, so fingers are crossed, but I have a feeling that corrosion in
the PC boards main connector was the cause, and that the door is fixed.
Time will tell, and if it does mess up again, the new board will be on the
shelf.
The point is that Deoxit has made the door open and close like a new one.
Gerry
P.S. I use liquid Deoxit which comes in a pump type can.

Thanks Rick, I found stuff on that in other places. I was just
hoping that you might have some info from a more personal
perspective.

Rick

Do you have personal experience with the kit or know someone who
has?

No.

On what do you base the comment that it is a good kit?

Comment here years ago, and on other forums.
I personally will probably just put in a new R-4
compressor from a reputable manufacturer,
when I refurbish my A/C.
