Oddly enough, I pick one up still in the package at Goodwill last week.
Thought I needed one to have on hand, in case. When I got home, there was a
screw in type in the drawer. Oh, yeah, I got a compression testing thing last
year!

That is really cool. I do not understand a single page.

Based on what I did see, I tried to power the thing up. It did not accept
electrons

My neighbor is a jazz drummer and he collects cymbals. In an OCD/compulsive
manner, and is always trading for more. He says he has bad thoughts when he
sees a cymbal.

I pulled a head unit out of a w201 this weekend. It was a Kenwood. It has
spaghetti wires out the back end. And the idiot who removed it from the
console was overly active with his knife. Just hacked things apart. But they
left the MB power hook up intact.

When the Mexico was not working, I figured I would see if the Kenwood worked.

And now.. .bad thoughts.

https://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_22737_Kenwood-KVT-516.html

It powers up and the screen came out and on.

Do I just say “screw it” and put this thing in?

I called Tracfone, who is my service provider, and talked with them at
length, complaining about the cell tower. After going through a lot of
stuff, including them contacting the cell tower company, they said I
should transfer my service to another phone.

I started that process, but then got to the point where their system had
an error and I was to wait 24 - 48 hours and call back. I never did and
have been able to use my original phone (which I got from Mitch).

grommet thingy.

Anyway, having done this I found that for whatever reason the metal pin
that does the locking of the fuel door from the actuator wouldn’t move,
like it was frozen in the actuator body. The actuator is sort of a weird
setup unlike the typical vacuum actuator, since this pin is attached to
the

diaphragm and is moved by it moving back and forth to provide locking and
unlocking. Since the pin is on both sides of the diaphragm, it has to be
sealed to the actuator body or vacuum/pressure would leak out (remember
that W126 central locking uses pressure AND vacuum.)

The seal that the pin goes through was stuck fast to the pin. It took
some goomph but I got it loose without damage and once having done so I
put

some dish soap on the pin and moved it in and out of the bore so the seal
would get lubed up. After I was satisfied that it was moving freely I
reassembled the actuator halves and hooked it up. Voilá! Working fuel
door lock now.

The only thing I can figure is that the car sat for extended periods of
time, and the seal in the actuator housing just got old or sticky from
lack

of use and the climate. Now that I’ve freed it up hopefully it will
continue to work.

I love those cheap/free repairs…

phone towers that should be updated periodically. You could try doing that

2017-04-03 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
According to the Beru catalog, the sparkplugs for the M104 have threads M14
x 1.25. This Eastwood compression tester doesn't give info beyond M14, so
I took a risk and ordered it.

I worked with nuclear materials, including various isotopes of uranium,
but not with final-stage weapons.

Yes. Quoting what I heard in grad school and what is at
http://ctp.berkeley.edu/neutrino/neutrino4.html

Moreover, if neutrinos convert to something else by their own
accord, we conclude that they must be travelling slower than
the speed of light and therefore must have a mass.

Neutrinos oscillate between their three different flavors:
electron nutrino, muon nutrino, tau neutrino.

Enrico Fermi named them neutrino for "little neutral one".

2017-04-03 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
My dad also had a hand held tachometer. The end of it was similar to
the tapered rubber plug on the compression tester. You held that end on
a rotating shaft center, and it mechanically moved a strip up the side
to indicate RPM. It worked similarly to the 110/111 vertical
speedometer. Before tractors had tachometers, he used it to set a
tractor throttle position to get the tight PTO speed by checking RPM on
the fan on the back of the speedsprayer he sold. (Air blast sprayer)

A working Becker Mexico Am/FM cassette with functioning search bar is
probably worth over $400 today.

Re: [MBZ] Release Fuel Door Actuator?

2017-04-03 Thread Dan--- via Mercedes
Above. I have the later model that's barrel shaped with the red mushroom for
the manual release.

It looks like there's a tab on the forward part that has to be pressed to
release the actuator from the part anchored to the car.

I'll poke around on it this afternoon when I get home from work.

Does your vehicle ID number end above or below 354452

I know there’s a tab of some sort that you can push on to release the actuator

some sort of visualization I’m not having a lot of luck.

I’ve found a few pictures and references to this on the interwebs, but none of

No, just an insomniac.

I see on another forum that in about 2011 the Becker folks in New Jersey
would sell the technical manual for not too much $$, I found a scan / post
for the Mexico 375 (??) model here:

Looks like there's supposed to be an external amplifier section? I see pix

Re: [MBZ] Becker Mexican stand off

2017-04-03 Thread clay via Mercedes
Exactly like that.

I have been searching the interWebz for data and I suspect that the stub is
actually the connection to the AMP. So the red and green are the speaker
wires, with the common negative mated up inside the head unit.

But this has no amp, just some thing with A, B, C, D, E on a dial.

wrapped wire is the ground (negative) side for the speakers. Nautically
speaking, port (left) side of the vessel would get the red wire, starboard
