After that, get a car powered by an OM617 turbo or OM603 Turbo.  Both 
have altitude compensation without a computer.  I know, that doesn't 
help.  But with no experience with the new junk, I have no other

It's going into "limp home" mode -- check the switchover valves for EGR, boost 
control, and manifold flaps if it has them.  A bad switchover will result in 
all sorts of ills, cured by replacing it.

A read-out of the error codes should help.

I would be close to jumping on this if it wasn't for the horrible aftermarket 
seat covers. Sad part is that I have a set of front seats the the proper color 
but had them in the storage building at the old house and the seat rail from 
another set of seats caught it and ripped a big hole in the front of the cover 
ruining it. Crap. I used to have the backseat also. This car would need proper 
seat covers for sure.

SWMBO was driving around my w210 diesel and she said at some point in the
journey the check engine light came on. I just took it out and drove it and
it is acting just like it did the time I took it up the mountain. On that
trip, when I got to higher altitude, the check engine light came on and it
suddenly had no umph when mashing down on the foot feed. Like the turbo was
gonelike I was driving my old NA w123s. Eventually, after I returned
home, the light cleared and all the zoom zoom was back.

The computer message reads, "check engine electronics".

Any ideas?

Kaleb is upset because I didn’t follow up with him as he wants the car.

Long story short, the owner appears to be an elderly gentleman who is not 
firing on all cylinders.  He has decided he wants to donate the car to charity 
despite efforts to convince him to do otherwise.  As a result, it’s no longer 
for sale as far as I know.  I’m keeping close tabs on it for now though some 
local folks and if I see something change I’ll let you know.

Several months ago I queried the list about replacement batteries since
4 of my dewalt batteries crapped out  at pretty near the same time.

I bought 2 no name chinee bigger capacity (1.2 Ah) batteries on fleabay
from a place in IL.They work great, except they stick in the recip saw.
I hold the releases and bump the saw, then they come out.

There are several you boob videos about using multiple good batteries,
mig welders and other dc sources of 24-48V DC to zap the old batteries
several times (5 to 20 time depending on which expert you listen to)  By
zap the procedure is to hook up the negative to negative terminals, then
take a wire hooked to the source positive terminal and spark the
positive terminal on the dead battery several times.

After that, hook up the battery to a Imax B5 Li-ion balance charger
(LiPro) used by RC car/truck enthusiasts (sold on fleabay)  It can be
programmed for Nicad as well as Li-ion, Pb-acid and so forth.

sounds like he might be a German)  He works on what I think is a Bosch
9.6V battery.

Here are the settings I used, based on the video.

1.  hook the charger to 12v power source.  I used a car battery.  THere
is a plug included that fits the power input with 2 alligator clips.
The video guy used and old computer power supply 12V DC.
2. set to Nicad
3.  Set to 1.2 amp charge
4.  Set to 0.6 Amp discharge and volts = auto (down arrow key)
5.  Set for 5 cycles.  Next time I think I will use 10 cycles

The zapping gets the attention of the nicads, breaking the "memory" 
effect.

the charger then acts like the battery conditioner I had for the
powerbook 165 in 1995.  Nicads are reconditioned by deep cycling
discharge and then full recharge cycles.  This charger does that.

The first battery I zapped worked fairly well with charging on the
dewalt charger after I "zapped" it.  Today I ran the 10 cycles on the
LiPro charger and that makes it as near as I can tell about  as good as
a new battery.

The price of the charger (about $20) is offset by saving one battery.

Anyhow, the method works, and even zapping alone revives the battery to
usable from junk condition.

Batteries Plus used to offer a service like this where they would recover NiCad 
batteries.  I had an IBM ThinkPad that had a battery that died, and the 
replacements were stupid expensive.  I sent it to a location in Colorado and 
they sent it back after about a week.  The battery worked fine, if I recall 
correctly it still kept about 90% of the charge it would when new.
