hear clearly now! I got Allen almost two years ago. Never had good audio. Removed the aftermarket radio when i got it, along with all the junk wires and crap in the trunk. Had to replace the hat shelf out back and put GenII speakers there. Hooked up another radio and got occasional sound out of passenger side rear, while driver side rear always has sound. I had a set of GenII front speakers on the parts shelf intending to replace the aged out fronts. Crap reception and inability to hear music pushed me over the edge today. I removed the screens for front speakers and found garbage pioneers in the holes. Once the real speakers were hooked up… I had much music without having to take the knob to 11. clay monroe redgh...@comcast.net ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

[MBZ] Griots
I go to meet Richard Griot today. Pretty cool guy, and he has LOTS of interesting cars. MBCA local section event this morning at Griot headquarters with a peek behind the curtain at some of his cars and how he got some and what he is doing with them. We got to see three of his benz. All were in process and getting made better. A black on black E320 coupe with low enough miles that was getting detailed and some updates to brakes/wheels and engine bay. Might be upgraded to E500 coupe. Another black something that obviously was not special enough to stick in my mind. Probably because the formerly brown/brown 280sl w113 was now china blue on red that had the engine from a 280SEL plopped under the hood and looked to be brand new all over. Still up on stands with all new almost everything. There were a few McClarens, some Ferraris, Porsche, Manx, and lots of other interesting rides. clay 1974 450sl - Frosch - Two tone green 1986 SDL - Polei 1982 300 SD - Allen retired models- 2002 s430 - Victor, a Stately & well tailored crap 1976 300D - Blei Vanst - it looks silvery 1972 220D - Gump - She was green, simple and ran 1995 E300D - Gave her life to save me against a Dame in a SUV POS 1987 SDL - Beware Nigerian Scammers ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Not a Dollar General I suppose. You'd think a chain that originated in the hills and hollers of East TN would sell real matches. But they went big time, and don't carry real matches, at least in the DG stores I have been in. I've looked all over the Mississippi valley and not found any. Tried grocery stores of all stripes, hardware stores, dollar stores, small, local chain box stores, sporting goods, big box, etc. All we can find are the crappy small "safety" matches. Maybe I should try looking in AL. I don't get to GA. Tried Rouse, a LA grocery store. ROGER HALE via Mercedes wrote: Curley, Do you have any small lesser name grocery stores in your area? [MBZ] Xentry Alternative
For those that might be interested, I’ve found that the Snap-On MT2500 and MTG2500 (color version) scanners are quite inexpensive and relatively easy to use compared to the Xentry systems with the computer, mux and cables. I recently bought an MTG2500 on eBay for around $165. I had to spend maybe another $150 on Mercedes software, cables and “personality keys”, but I’ve sold all the software modules, cables and personality keys that came with the scanner I bought and have ended up covering what I spent for mine and making money on top of it. It’s not as good as the Xentry system, but it’s a lot easier to use, especially if you want to drive the car with the scanner connected to see things like engine and transmission data. I bought one because it’s a heck of a lot easier to use in the field when you go to look at a car. You don’t have to mess with all the Xentry stuff and find a power source. Not only that, if you have other cars in your driveway besides Mercedes you can get the software and cables for them, too. -D ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
Re: [MBZ] 1992 Mercedes $300 -- stealing Max's thunder
It was very tempting at $250, but I really don't have time for it. I also really don't need it. Seemed to be pretty complete and in desperate need of a lot of TLC. I was thinking to swap engines and have a cheap 140 to drive around (BULLET PROOF WINDOWS!) but it would need a paint job to look even close to presentable. Rich's $500 E300 was a far better deal... [MBZ] 1992 Mercedes $300 -- stealing Max's thunder
Max and I took a road trip out to the middle of nowhere, which is actually quite pretty, to this guy's place right near I-95. turns out he has a 92 S350 with what appears to be either a cracked head or blown head gasket, it was regurgitating foul looking stuff out of the coolant tank. I forgot to grab a battery so we took the battery out of the $500E300 (first road trip in it!) and got the S350 fired up after a few tries, it was running but a bit rough, and gurgling as I mentioned. The trunk wouldn't close, I'm guessing it has a pull down or something that was inop. Young guy owned it, he had paid $1000 to some used lot, drove it for awhile then it started having the problems "loosing" coolant. The oil looked OK so was not getting into the crankcase. I felt badly for the kid, he just wanted to unload it and make a bit back, I was thinking charitably maybe $200 but we decided to leave it. If I go insane I might think about it but Max said it was a lot of time to change the gasket, and if the head is bad that would be a bigger deal. Plus if it was starting to show rodbender behavior... Curley, Do you have any small lesser name grocery stores in your area? Not a Kroger, Publix, or other big name. I have a Quality Foods here (you might have a Food Lion, Piggley Wiggley, etc.). These stores still carry "country items" like matches, canning jars, etc. This is where I get my matches and they seem to be ok. Just a suggestion. [MBZ] Ohio Blue Tip
Can anybody find real patches for sale? In the past few years real strike anywhere matches have disappeared in this part of the country. We used to get Ohio Blue Tip, but I'd guess the greenie weenies put that out of business. Full size Diamond and small Diamond "safety" (strike on the box, if you are lucky, it might light) matches were the replacement. These were replaced by some kind of greenie weenie "environmental match." the last ones we found that were not greenie weenie matches were the small "safety" matches made in some turd world place like veetnam. The record so far was 6 of 7 broke when trying to scratch them on the box. A LOT of them break before lighting. They are sawed crossgrain rather than split. Such a simple thing, but yet now impossible to find. We tried "outdoor stores" too, but their matches are over a buck each. Sold in packs of 5 for something like $5.98. Not buying that! Re: [MBZ] Or I could replace White Whale with this?
that is why a grand caravan is better. But they skimp on the length even on those. you can only stack 4/8 sheets a couple inches high and still get the hatch closed. My old '66 frod SWB van was way better for hauling. Mitch Haley via Mercedes wrote: My W163 annoyed me yesterday, but it was my fault. My S210 is about 30" high in cargo bay IIRC, and a ML is way taller than a slope back 210 wagon, right? So I head to Menards to get a couple of prehung doors. There's no way an 80" door plus the frame will fit behind the driver's seat. But if I run it diagonally with the passenger seat all the way forward, I should be able to close the hatch on one door stood on edge, maybe two if I'm lucky. I measured the length, but I knew I had plenty of height so didn't bother measuring it. I go to put the 36" door in the ML, and it won't go in on edge, not even close. I doubt the 32" door would have fit. Then I realize that the roof of the ML might be a lot higher than the roof on the wagon, but so is the floor. Ended up running the driver's seat forward an inch or two and laying the doors flat. It will have a part number plate on the passenger side bell housing, visible from above with a flashlight. - Max Charleston SC On Sat, Oct 13, 2018 at 8:51 AM Mitch Haley via Mercedes < mercedes@okiebenz.com> wrote: > > > On October 13, 2018 at 6:22 AM Max Dillon via Mercedes < > mercedes@okiebenz.com> wrote: > > > > > > Yes, gives me pause. > > > > Kaleb, what is the special thing to look for on a replacement rodbender > engine? > > An engine serial number that doesn't match the datacard? > > Mitch. > > ___ > http://www.okiebenz.com > > To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ > > To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: > http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com > > ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
Re: [MBZ] Rust Bucket For Mitch or Michael
15 years ago we had a list member about 30 miles south of there. Can't remember his name though. Sounds like they drove it into the ground until they didn't think it was worthwhile to replace a fuel line. Re: [MBZ] Rich Corinthian Leather
I looked this over closely, as my Dad had one. This car had over 100k on the clock and rust in a number of places. Why it was on BAT is beyond me. It presents well but on close inspection it’s a turd. I think they were lucky to get $2k. -D > On Oct 12, 2018, at 10:39 PM, Andrew Strasfogel via Mercedes > wrote: > > Won't get you very far these days. No love for a '76 Corthoba.
