So, can you replace the alternator from a '90 - '93 OM602 engine with a
solid pulley?

Hmm, that alternator has the clutched pulley (I recently installed one on
the alternator on The White Whale). I'll bet it was the clutched pulley
that crapped the bed, not the alternator. New pulley is about 30 bucks,
then you need a special tool (I have it) to install. Are the alternator
shaft threads really gone, or are you looking at the remains of the
clutched pulley?

Last night I was driving home about 10:30 and heard a thunk up front
of the $500E300, then a message comes up “ Battery Charge” and
steering was hard so I knew either the serpentine belt had broken
(new) or alternator had munched.

Pulled over to a lot in a little shop as the temp was rising and
parked. Popped the hood and saw the alternator pulley was gone and the
shaft was ground down so I figure the alternator had seized and the
pulley was spun off the shaft. That was quick.

Luckily I was close to my friend’s where Max and I have our Benz bits
stored in her barn so I rang her and she came and collected me and
gave me a ride home. Soon to hook up the trailer and go drag the thing
home. Bah.

Last night I was driving home about 10:30 and heard a thunk up front of the
$500E300, then a message comes up “ Battery Charge” and steering was hard so I
knew either the serpentine belt had broken (new) or alternator had munched.

Pulled over to a lot in a little shop as the temp was rising and parked. Popped
the hood and saw the alternator pulley was gone and the shaft was ground down
so I figure the alternator had seized and the pulley was spun off the shaft.
That was quick.

Luckily I was close to my friend’s where Max and I have our Benz bits stored in
her barn so I rang her and she came and collected me and gave me a ride home.
Soon to hook up the trailer and go drag the thing home. Bah.

Coupon for a new alternator discount?
