So ET is a pretty famous Atari game because it was terrible. Atari ended up
trashing many of them as "unsellable" at the Alamagordo dump in New Mexico. A
few years ago they dug some up and sold them for like $50/each.
EBay right now has one, new in box, for $75...

I guess that it all depends on the application of the popcorn - YMMV.
Spraying does sound like the easiest way to paint it, once you have the
sprayer, masking done, and know how to use it.

[MBZ] OT - Turpentine

2019-04-08 Thread Mountain Man via Mercedes
For health?
Has anyone ever heard of this?
It sounds as if this is not some new wacko thing but has been around
for a long time? From the information online it looks like the
petroleum product is not used for health but the essential oil from
tree sap is. This link is transcript of radio show and may be
interesting?

Has anyone heard about this... ever?
Thanks.

Re: [MBZ] WOT I bought an airless paint sprayer

2019-04-08 Thread Scott Ritchey via Mercedes
Another option is the "paint in handle" roller, like this:
https://www.amazon.com/PaintStick-C800953-M-Applicator-Painting-Interior/dp/B0102ZBGJG/
There are several brands these days.
They are a bit of a pain to clean and the rollers aren't cheap. But if you can
use a regular roller these make a small to medium job much faster.
As the roller begins to get dry you just bump (or twist for some models) the
handle to push more paint into the roller. The longer handle makes it easy to
reach almost any indoor surface without a ladder. But you still need to "cut
in" around trim.

True enough at first. Mission Planning didn't rely on any sort of
deception, and the North Vietnamese could guess at the routes from where
the tankers were orbiting. But, that was also true of most of the air
attacks in the North. On the other hand, there was also a belief that the
little black boxes would be magical, and to an extent they were. But in
the end, Mission Planning really under estimated that amount of missile

missiles. Literally. And there were still plenty of Buffs.

The SAC H.Q. botched those missions BADLY due to Lazy - stupid planning.
Each night the mission was IDENTICAL - each "cell" of three B-52s flew the

turning point, exact same exit path. To make matters worse, the mission
template called for a severe turn out after bomb drop which turned the
jammers antenna away from the ground at a time the B-52 was most
vulnerable, (bomb doors wide open, steep turn, most radar visible with
least amount of E.C.M. That is when the majority of losses occurred. The
N.V.A. were no dummies. It was like shooting skeet. If you know exactly

to shoot them down and having the Soviet Air Defense experts there to

The Crews basically mutinied and said, "change up the damn attack plan or
find some other idiots to be your clay pigeons"... SAC figured out that
unsustainable losses were a "Bad Thing" and changed up the attack plans

Couchlord responded:

Indeed. It was even worse than that.

The turn out took them into the jet stream and an instant -100mph ground
speed hit, increasing their SAM exposure time accordingly.
The turn out was not necessary, they were dropping iron bombs from 40K'
not 10MT nukes.
The cells were split into 3 groups of attacks each night split by exactly
3 hours. Each attack, as mentioned above, flew the exact same routes to
the exact same targets. The 3 hour gap allowed the NVA to reload their SAM
sites.
The same targets were attacked on consecutive nights with the exact same
timing and routes, as mentioned above.

The SAM depots were not attacked.
The B-52's were ordered not to jink.
Splitting each nights attack into 3 waves separated by 3 hours diluted the
Wild Weasel and CAP support.

The chaff corridor was poorly timed and

Our house in Los Osos, California, had a pink bedroom. I changed it to a
light pure yellow. It took 2 coats of primer and 5 coats of finish.

I had to do some repair later to some damage. I put on 1 coat of sanding
sealer (oil based) and 1 coat of finish.

2019-04-08 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
The radiator in my '98 Jetta TDI was held, at least in part, with zip ties for
the last 3 or 4 years. Part of the mount had rusted away so I ran in a couple
heavy duty zip ties and it never moved. The bottom air dam on Angie's '05 Golf
is also held with zip ties. That reminds me, I need to put new ones in, I saw
some were broken...

Not only that, the condenser (and maybe the evaporator) has such fine

replace the condenser (and maybe the evaporator) because it's impossible

Actually it was the "ozone hole" over the antarctic. Interesting, that
ozone, produced by ultraviolet light from the sun, decreased when it was
dark during the winter ...

You don't hear anything about the "ozone hole" nowadays; it was really

In other words, don’t even think of hesitating or you’ll unload a quart of
paint in a very small space. The key is to keep moving, and fast.

Re: [MBZ] WOT I bought an airless paint sprayer

2019-04-08 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
I went with the sprayer because the ceiling has that popcorn sh*t on it
and I didn't want to scrape it off like I have done in other rooms.  So
I had to mask off anyway, and I usually do tape on all the moldings and
baseboards, so adding a bit of paper to the tape was not that big a
deal.  I would have preferred the roller/brush mode but in this case
spraying was about the only way to go.

It does move a lot of paint fast though, which is good but you gotta
watch it.

For me rollers are easier for walls. I don't have to worry about masking
off the whole room for overspray. If I were doing a whole room in new
construction with no furniture or trim or floor covering installed yet,
I would use a sprayer.

Re: [MBZ] 1970 Mercedes Benz 280SE W108 - $1700 (Mt. Pleasant), again

2019-04-08 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
I think I have seen that car, it was sitting outside a garage with a
for-sale sign about ten or fifteen years ago. Complete rust bucket, really
far gone. Seller wanted crazy money back then. Insanity - doing the same
thing over and over and expecting a different result.

Re: [MBZ] WOT I bought an airless paint sprayer

2019-04-08 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
Yes, it does take awhile to get primed and then cleaned up after.  Much
better for big jobs given the sunk time involved, but it works very well
on this job too.

I am actually kinda impressed too that a cheap HF unit seems to work
pretty well.  It needs a higher stand to be able to use the 5gal buckets
directly, maybe I will make one for it. I need to order some more
nozzles for it, for some reason they didn't have them in the store.  I
asked a woman there, who I think was the manager, and she said she would
try to order some to stock as various people had asked about them.

for a room, it takes longer to set up and clean than to spray.  I

Otherwise they rust and set you back $60 or more.

For doing some repaints on the house. Harbor Freight special, it
seems like a decent unit, got good reviews.  I just primed a bedroom
in less than 30min, walls and ceiling (which has that popcorn on it
that you absolutely cannot roll paint on).  It looks really good.
I'll let that dry a bit then hit it with white paint.

Took awhile to mask off the doors, windows, and baseboards but I
generally do blue tape around the perimeter anyway.  It's a bit of a
bother to get it going and to clean it up, but not too bad.  I'm
gonna use it next to spray stain on the outside of the house.  I got
a respirator to keep unwanted paint spray out of my lungs, put a fan
in a window to blow air out, but it doesn't seem to leave much around
other than where you point it.

These things are da bomb!

Re: [MBZ] Somebody needs this

2019-04-08 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
reminds me of this 300CD I bought from an estate sale.  The woman
running the sale (there is something about these women who do estate
sales...) had this idea it was worth $5500 or some such.  I tried to
talk to her and she was high on crack or something, whatever estate
saleswomen of a certain age medicate themselves with. She was much
better with selling the old lady's t  Of course it never sold at the
sale so she gave me the info of the guy who hired her to do the sale,
and we struck a reasonable bargain.
