Awesome work and a good read!  There is probably a special Mercedes tool
for the job that you cleverly manufactured. I had a dealer book with
drawings of all sorts of special Mercedes tools.  Wonder what happened to
it...

I drove it, it got along pretty good. He'd used some weird clutch setup so the 
clutch pedal was really heavy.

[MBZ] Car shake at idle

A bit of money and wear saving advice. if your engine is shaking badly at idle, 
check the air filter before the fuel injectors. My 240D's engine was shaking 
like mad until I got a new air filter from AutoZone for just $11. Humongous 
difference. Reduced the shaking by like 80-90%.
