Aw come on!  You mean none of you  guys saw Diesel Tank and thought of
an army tank with a Diesel engine?   Nobody got a smile out of my list
of stuff to put in your tank?   What a bunch o sad sacks!

As for me, 48 yrs and nothing but #2, a little #1 when it is cold, and
once it was so bad I resorted to a little benzin to counter the gelling.
(and Biocide!for summer storage.)

Re: [MBZ] OT Re: Camping issues

2019-05-15 Thread Clay Monroe via Mercedes
From my experiences with the dispossessed, they are possessed of a very violent
nature and tend to exude many toxic products. The needles accumulated in the
streets and parks now give me the screaming jeebies. I mistook a white pen and
an orange ear plug sitting on a bedside table for a heroin needle. Massive
PTSD for me. The feces and trash are just plain nasty, and seeing it every
day, having to avoid stepping in these cesspools of disease, just wears on a
person.

The real fun began with the nutjobs throwing rocks or becoming bellicose as I
walked the streets downtown seattle. One evening a hobo wrapped in a moving
blanket wandered up to me and I was sure from the crazed look of the man that I
might not see the sun rise again. He was alternately violent and abject,
flipping within seconds. Followed me for ten minutes, getting all up in my
face while spewing spittle and clawing at his body, as if for a weapon. The
few cops out paid this parade no attention at all, and when I was finally quit
of the bum, the idiot 911 dame was of no assistance at all. Made no attempt to
send officers for me to file a report. That was the weekend I figure I needed
to take some time outside the lower 48 to get my head back straight.

So, no, these are not kind folk down on their luck. These are the viet cong
with punji sticks and all manner of covert death agains civilization.

Re: [MBZ] Uhhhhh I think I might have found Jaime's next purchase

2019-05-15 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
Because MBNA decreed we would all buy slushboxes.   The 4 speeds are
generally cars ordered by the first owner, and patiently waited for.
The marketing shifted from the WWII generation to the next generation
about 1968.   The WWII generation grew up without auto  as a choice, and
were quite happy shifting (as did I)  Their offspring, by and large were
easily converted to slushboxes, except theones used to driving trucks
and tractors.   I drove tractors since 9 and first drive a truck in the
fields when I was 12.  Didn't drive a car until I got a learner's
permit, and it was a shovey impala mit 3 gears and OD.   Other than
driver's ed, I never drove a slushbox until 1995 when I got the 240D.

I got a turbo and K cold intake you can put on, turn up the injectors,
and if you stack it that'll cut down the back pressure.  Buy the special

I am not opposed to certain lighter shades of brown, that incorporate some
yellow, such as the so-called "golden brown". I don't care for tobacco
brown. Anthracite gray looks bronzed-y brown in the sun, which I rather
like.

[MBZ] W116.120 throttle linkage tool A1800720393 diameter

2019-05-15 Thread David Bruckmann via Mercedes
Hello all,

Does anyone happen to know the diameter of A1800720393, described as "Adjusting
sleeve" in the 30-300, "Adjusting throttle linkage". Looks like it's about 1cm
based on a picture on the ECS Tuning website.

I have carried out the throttle linkage adjustments without this fitting, and
understand that its function is to keep the "guide lever" (the thing that
pivots on top of the valve cover, where the throttle and transmission linkages
attach) at a specified distance during those base settings.

After adjustments the shift behaviour is much improved, but I'd love to be able
to actually follow the instructions. The adjustments I made totalled only about
one or two millimetres and, as usual, made a big difference.

Given that it's only a couple of dollars I may just go ahead and order it when
next I buy from MB, but it seems like something that could be improvised given
how infrequently it is used. Thanks for any ideas/help anyone could render.

D.

Re: [MBZ] A question for Jaime

2019-05-15 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
What are you trying to accomplish?

To add lubricity, I use RedLine Diesel Fuel Catalyst. I can’t say enough good
things about this, and have used it in cars I put as many as 200k on the clock.

I’ve also used Biobor (?) as an algaecide, more for prevention that as a cure.

There are others out there, but the question is more a matter of what you’re
trying to accomplish.

I have chased how to hold onto all of my hoard and found no viable solution.
Best to cut my losses and move on.

having said that, #1 boy just did cut his loses and let go of his w140 300SE
for $300. It had been sitting awaiting attention for two years and he was
never going to get around to the head gasket and wiring harness, so may as well

Re: [MBZ] You have to laugh, but....

2019-05-15 Thread David Bruckmann via Mercedes
While I cannot claim to have driven most of them, in the early 2000s I bought a
1978 300D, original engine, which had 777,000 MILES (!) on it when the odometer
died about five years before I got it. It had been used as a daily highway
commuter, and I drove it as a winter beater in Toronto for another four years.
Must have had pretty close to a million MILES on it when I gave it away. It had
really good floor ventilation by the end, but had a nasty habit of scooping up
snow on the highway... don't leave anything you care about in the rear footwell!

Ever buy anything?  Their catalog has a LOT of parts listed.  Guy on FB
210 group says you can buy the front fascia ("bumper cover") 2108805870
for $67.  I see a bunch on ebay, lowest is $123.  I figured a used on
would be at least that much at a knacker, though this one doesn't have
any of the trim bits so any busted ones would have to be sourced too.
But still that is really cheap. They have a store or something near
Durham close to where my daughter is, she could pick one up for me and
bring it to me.

Does Michigan still have concrete freeways?
New England doesn't although I still remember the days of the "clunk clunk,
clunk clunk." down the road. Here where frost heaving is an issue it would get
worse every year even after paving over. They finally pulled all the concrete
in the '90s.

In theory, that should be just within the 5000lb braked limit.

The ML gives me the impression that it's SWB and on the tall side, I'm not sure
if the tongue weight of a heavy trailer could induce hobby horsing on freeway
expansion strips. OTOH, maybe your freeways don't induce galloping like
Michigan freeways do.
The dolly is pretty much all push/pull, there's no noticeable up/down action on
the towing vehicle.

I believe that is correct. The issue on the 164 is the stability control nanny,
braking controller, and light circuit and sensors, and who knows what else. The
magic box deals with all that stuff. I saw somewhere that this 99 I have is
not concerned with those things but I cannot say with certainty but it seems to
make sense.
