I know,a great body shop in RI- they restored my 300CD after tree fell on it & also redid the rear bumper on my E320 w211 after it got hit. It is Coastline Collision in Narragansett RI. [MBZ] Happy Birthday Harry Bell
Harry Bell turned 94 today, and celebrated with his crew at the Triplett Day drug store lunch room. Harry's WWII story is in this book: https://www.amazon.com/Forgotten-Heroes-World-War-SoldiersLand/dp/1589799631 by Thomas Simmons, one of the crew that gathers at 10:30 an at the Drug store for coffee, stories good times. The group keeps a folder at the drugstore with the "best of" jokes and a record of whose turn it is to pay the bill. After the War Harry was an engineer for Mississippi Power and his wife Louise ran a travel agency a block up the street from Triplett-Day. They closed the travel agency a couple years ago, and Louise died last summer. Harry is typical of WWII vets and never draws attention to himself, but he donates to a lot of causes and has been a great support to the church. Harry is getting frail, and I am not sure how many more Birthdays he will have. There are not a lot of WWII vets left to send a birthday greeting to. Re: [MBZ] Plugging Tires
I'm suddenly reminded of a bicycle tire leak detector I bought in the 1980s. It's a screened container, about the diameter of a Carmex tub but half as tall, with tiny styrofoam beads in it. You blow the tire up to 100psi, and slowly spin the tire past the container, and the beads dance when the pinhole goes past. It only works for gross leaks that aren't quite gross enough to feel blowing on your face, but it sounded good in principle, and I think I only paid about a dollar for it. I had a screw in a new nokian on the van within a day. Tire shop refused to plug or patch it. They claimed it was too near the shoulder. I ordered a mushroom plugs from fleabay and patched it myself. It is fine. I bought a new can of cement from the FLAPS to use with the mushroom plug. I had a little trouble getting the tar broken down and dismounted. Once the tar was off, it was pretty simple. The muchroom patch combines the properties of a patch and a plug. Belt and suspenders. After the plugs were used up, I went back and bought a pack of plugs. Probably have 5-10 plugs left, haven't needed it in years. [MBZ] Plugging Tires
Noticed the ML had a back tire with a nail in it. Looks like it’s solidly in place and has been there for a while. Took the tire to my tire guy today, but despite begging and cajoling he refused to plug it, mainly because he said it didn’t have enough tread left (it’s probably got about 3/16” of tread left, maybe a little more.) I realize this is just a ploy on the part of the tire dealers to sell more tires, however, as this is a beater vehicle I’m not about to drop any coin on new tires unless they’re absolutely necessary. Re: [MBZ] AC on the $500E300 210
Once my wagon AC has been in operation for longer than 10 or 15 minutes, it will start to cycle between cold and hot. At first I thought it was the monovalve allowing hot coolant into the heater core, but the behavior persists after I clamp off the hose to the heater core, so the heat must be coming from the refrigerant. - Max Charleston SC On Mon, May 20, 2019 at 2:55 PM Meade Dillon wrote: > Is this valve also in the compressors used on the 124 cars? The nice thing about the soda fire ext. is that it already has a dip tube. no invert to empty. Plug in the sucker to drain the oel. when you hear bubbles, you know most of it is out. put the hose in a jug, and add a little pressure and blow the used oel out. Meade Dillon via Mercedes wrote on 5/20/19 9:55 AM: I've finally assembled all the parts to make a new oil sucker. I've got an empty jug that used to hold 30lbs of R22, a vacuum pump, and a couple of old AC hoses that I can use to vacuum the tank and then suck out the oil. Next oil change I'm going to employ this set-up: Pull a vacuum on the tank, jamb the end of the hose into the top of the dipstick tube and suck out the oil, then put a little pressure in the tank, invert and push the oil into the empty oil containers or maybe I'll just take the entire tank to the recycling place to dump in the big recycling tank. - Max Charleston SC ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

you know I am thinking it is probably something simple, wonder if it is throwing a code for something. It could be a really nice car for $1500, wonder if he would take that. Would have to go to Murder Beach to check it out though, it's like a 2hr drive. I kinda like the $500E300 though, good fuel mileage, but this one looks a bit nicer. --FT On 5/20/19 11:17 AM, M. I've finally assembled all the parts to make a new oil sucker.

I have a *real* branded Topsider but years of using it without the thin tube made the adapter between the fat and thin tubes lose suction. I just looked at their website and I see you can buy the whole tube set with adapter for $9. I may spend some time at my local hardware store squeezing different tubes together to see if I can find a blend that works as good, otherwise I might just buy the tube. Re: [MBZ] Oil change day(s)
I have a pair, the car is very low, the valance scrapes long before the wheels ever get near the ramps. I suppose I could nail some 2x8s together to make a transition ramp but for once or twice a year the floor jack and jack stand suffice. I bought one of the Harbor Freight 3 ton jacks a couple years ago and I'm glad I did, a real floor jack makes it a quick job. -Curt On Saturday, May 18, 2019, 6:43:47 PM EDT, G Mann via Mercedes wrote: Grab a pair of steel drive on ramps. On and off is quick and easy, no need for a jack. They give enough space and elevation to make oil change a brze. Re: [MBZ] SL ranking thoughts
Well, at least he put the Gullwing at the top and got that right! The R107 should not be ranked the last, even though he makes some great points. Congrats that your model is #3. - Max Charleston SC On Mon, May 20, 2019 at 8:09 AM Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes < mercedes@okiebenz.com> wrote: > > https://www.autotrader.com/car-news/here-are-all-mercedes-benz-sl-models-ranked-best-worst-281474979847783 > > --FT > Sent from iPhone > ___ > http://www.okiebenz.com > > To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ > > To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: > http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com > > ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] next car for Poos
Just needs the trunk and maybe the hydraulic suspension fixed. Should be about two weekends of work, if he takes his time. - Max Charleston SC On Sun, May 19, 2019 at 10:47 PM Kaleb C.
