First nations people count back seven generation. No idea why, just know they do. That would make long term residents Natives. The US Constitution grants you to be Native Born if you fall out and land on US soil. A great many long term family residents may have non european blood lines intermingled. Those silly DNA apps keep uncovering a host of hidden skeletons families thought long dead. I know many First Nations people who are offended to be miss characterized as mexicans. There are also a bunch who look shades whiter than I do. NAACP in Easter Washington even had a white gal from Idaho be their leader. My folks have been here for 400 years, at least in the records. There is no doubt enough local blood in the line, but not enough for inclusion in any recognized tribal structure. clay > On Jul 20, 2019, at 6:16 PM, Jim Cathey via Mercedes > wrote: > >> They should now be called native americans. > > I find that term offensive, because besides myself, chances are we are _all_ > native. > > -- Jim ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Tom or Ed will talk to you about it, but on a very limited basis. It’s a fairly complex system since it’s multiple components, so if they even agree to look at it you have to pull everything and send it in as a system. Re: [MBZ] Test Message
My former next door neighbor is a “forensic HVAC investigator”. In other words, he works for insurance companies, identifying the part HVAC systems play in losses their insureds encounter. I had been talking to him about putting a solar powered attic fan in the house to get the attic temperatures down. He told me that before I did anything like that I should seal the “envelope” as tightly as I possibly could. Seems that people will go and put an attic fan in, thinking it will reduce the heat load on the living space by making the attic cooler. In reality, what often happens (according to him) is that the attic fan creates a negative pressure in the attic, which sucks conditioned air out of the living space through all the little racks and gaps that exist in every house. As a result, costs to condition the living space often go up after doing this, not down. So he cautioned me to seal up the house as best I could and then put an attic fan in, as long as the attic is properly ventilated (which is already was.) -D > On Jul 20, 2019, at 9:00 PM, Rick Knoble via Mercedes > wrote: > > In my former house I went in the attic and caulked all the wall and wallboard > joints, sealed the light fixtures, and caulked all holes for wiring, etc. > Made a big difference. Re: [MBZ] So what is it?
Yup, in the 93 model, the “brains” of the radio is in the box on the right, closest to the exterior of the car. The bass amplifier is in the one with the heat sink all over the exterior on the left. You have a BE1432 head unit, a 1432 receiver (on right side of trunk mounting plate) and a bass amp (left side of trunk mounting plate). Unfortunately, the only way to get a CD changer in these is to have a MUX (multiplexer) that was unique to these model years along with the proper CD changer. It was a Becker designed device that was bolted to the back of the CD changer and had a rather substantial cable that went between the MUX and the receiver. They’re very rare and desirable, so they’re hard to find and expensive when you do find one. Not so much because people want the CD changers setup, but because the MUX can be used to provide a line level input allowing you to connect an iPod or other external device to the system in place of the CD changer. Be glad if it’s working. Changing to an aftermarket system is a major undertaking in these cars, as it requires rewiring the whole audio system. -D > On Jul 20, 2019, at 8:22 PM, Craig via Mercedes wrote: > > On Sat, 20 Jul 2019 20:11:13 -0400 Dan Penoff via Mercedes > wrote: > >> Do you have the stock Becker system? I’ve moved nearly everything out and into a storage unit off site, so I could probably do it now. -D > On Jul 20, 2019, at 7:28 PM, Peter Frederick via Mercedes > wrote: > > Check for insulation in the ceiling too, often they don't put in any for an > attached garage (which is silly, why would you want a roasting hot garage > next the the house?). > > My brother put some in his a couple years ago, and it drops the summer temp > quite a bit, and the washer doesn't freeze anymore in the winter. > > Insulating the door is a great idea, it's not very expensive and does quite a > bit to cool it off, especially if it faces south or west. > ___ > http://www.okiebenz.com > > To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ > > To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: > http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com > > ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

I was at my fathers earlier today and he was watching the Lone Ranger. I had a good laugh as they were referring to Indians as injuns. I guess now days that term is raciest. Our Big Room is insulated, but it heats up quite noticably during the day while the Long Room, where we live, stays cool. I'm thinking the translucent "skylights" are a significant contributor to that. At night, it's the reverse, so I open the door between the rooms to let the cooler air from the Big Room flow into the Long Room. Check for insulation in the ceiling too, often they don't put in any for an attached garage (which is silly, why would you want a roasting hot garage next the the house?). My brother put some in his a couple years ago, and it drops the summer temp quite a bit, and the washer doesn't freeze anymore in the winter. That’s what I’m confused about. Why wouldn’t they include it? If anything, at least footnote the part in the EPC and say that the O ring should be ordered with it. Re: [MBZ] Test Message
I just snagged the biggest window unit (12,000 BTU?) I could off of Craigslist and popped it in the window. I had to run a circuit over to that side of the garage from my distribution panel which is on the opposite wall of the garage and add a breaker to the panel. I have an slightly oversize two car garage. In 90 degree heat like today, I had the boy roll his car in about 9:00 am and turn on the AC. By 10:00 it was pretty comfortable. It’s not so much the temp, but taking the humidity out really makes it so, so much better. Otherwise we would be sweating our brains out and soaking wet. My electric bill is getting hammered by it, but I don’t care. I noticed that my bill was up to $190 for last month, but considering the time of year and the amount of time I ran the thing I’m not at all unhappy. Without the garage AC I think the bill would have been more in the $160-$170 range, so $20-$30 is a small price to pay for making it possible to work in the garage this time of year without being totally miserable. If I insulated my garage door it would probably be even better, as a LOT of heat passes through it. I can stand by it late in the afternoon with the garage AC on and feel the higher temperatures within a foot or two of it. -D > On Jul 20, 2019, at 7:03 PM, Max Dillon via Mercedes > wrote: > > I'm really thinking about adding AC to my garage. > -- > Max Dillon > Charleston SC > > On July 20, 2019 2:46:30 PM EDT, Dan Penoff via Mercedes > wrote: >> Low 90s and high humidity. With that much complexity, we have to marvel that everything went according to plan. Although the first moon landing occurred 50 years ago, I remember it well. I was spending the summer here in the Pacific Northwest and on a rock climbing trip with a fellow graduate student from the University of Chicago. We were both close to taking our qualifying exams for the physics program. But that day we were out climbing near Leavenworth, Washington. That is a town modeled on a Bavarian village. We listened to the moon landing on our car radio and then went out rock climbing when the announcer said that it would be several hours before Neil Armstrong would emerge onto the lunar surface. Of course, Armstrong and Aldrin did not wait that long. So we missed hearing his "One small step for a man; one giant leap for mankind." But we quickly packed up our gear and headed into town to see if we could find a TV to watch Armstrong and Aldrin walking on the moon. When we finally found a TV in a bar, we watched with great fascination. But we were the only ones interested, as most were too busy drinking! It was surreal - no one else was interested! Today, I find myself working with Harrison Schmitt, another of the Directors of the CO2 Coalition, on climate issues. Harrison is the only scientist (geologist) to have walked on the moon and the most recent living person to have done so. Armstrong is long gone, and Aldrin and Collins are close to 90 years old. Good to hear from you! Please give my regards to your father. Re: [MBZ] Test Message
Agreed. When everyone around here is complaining about how hot and humid it is, I’m wondering how it’s any worse that when I was a kid growing up in the Midwest. Central Indiana in the mid to late summer was just this bad, so humid it was like getting poured into a bucket. And when we were working in August in the field, like baling hay, we were wearing jeans and long sleeved shirts! I can even begin to describe what it was like working in greenhouses during that time of year, especially when we were closed up tight and sterilizing the beds with live steam... I will say that it did cool down somewhat at night, but the days were just as blistering hot and humid as they are now. -D > On Jul 20, 2019, at 3:11 PM, Curley McLain via Mercedes > wrote: > > that is just a normal summer day for most of the country. [MBZ] OM606 Fuel Lines
Replaced the hard plastic fuel lines around and about the injection pump and fuel filter assembly on the eldest’s E300D today. Not a fun job, but not difficult. Amazingly, the new lines are just as hard as the originals. I figured they would be a little more flexible, but apparently not. Probably that way so they won’t collapse. I’m betting we probably could have just changed the O rings on the fittings out and all would have been well, but the new lines are pretty cheap. Replaced the shutoff valve/bolt in the top of the filter assembly, too, as the one on the car was leaking fuel through the weep hole. Also replaced the hard line for the fuel return to the main tank. The original one was some sort of weird dark blue plastic that was as hard as a rock. Good to have plenty of metric hose around on the shelf, courtesy of BelMetric. One surprise - I had a new prefilter that we installed as a part of the work. All went well, had to crank the engine for about 3-4 minutes total to get the air purged, but noticed that when the engine was shut down fuel leaked profusely from the area around the top of the prefilter. Everything was tight and the O ring appeared to be sealing properly on the fitting. Hmmm. Looked at the old prefilter. Big O ring on the top of the assembly above where the screen is attached to the plastic fitting. New (OE Mercedes) prefilter - no O ring. Got an O ring out of my O ring kit and fitted it. Not perfect as it wasn’t as wide as the correct one, but the diameter was right so it appears to be sealing. Called my dealer parts guy (he works Saturdays) and he’s got one in stock, so I’ll snag it on Monday. I’m surprised that the O ring isn’t supplied on the replacement filter. And no, there wasn’t a plastic bag in the package. -D ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

In Texas? In the summer? I would rather have 2/60 AC (two windows open going down the road at 60 mph). Come down here and try it. That frozen water bottle will be liquid in minutes. I drove the finnie to work yesterday morning at 5:30 am. The windows fogged up from running the AC because the dew point was so high. I had to use the defroster to keep my windshield clear. -D > On Jul 20, 2019, at 9:50 AM, Mitch Haley via Mercedes > wrote: > > I've seen some that run on D cells, basically a fan blowing over a water > bottle. > You're supposed to freeze the water bottle.
