Yes, they put the 300 badges on because the 350s were known to have

All of the 1990s OM603 were 3.5L AFAIK.
When the problems became too frequent to ignore, they started calling them
300SD but still had the 3.5. I'm pretty sure a 1992 (first year for W140)
originally came with 350 badges, I think the 300 badges came later.

Bigger diameter/width wheels enable lower profile/wider tires. The cars are
pretty good in corners with a bigger contact patch.

2020-08-06 Thread Karl Wittnebel via Mercedes
Yes the wave of the future is 123 body with 648 motor and a 722.6. Just
enough nannies and power to feel like you are in the right century.
Speaking of which, does anyone have a taller 123 or 116 rear end sitting
around? Like 2.6? 1st gear is pretty useless with this motor and the 3.06
or whatever it has in it now. It is like 1st gear in an old Fuller 13sp.
The car feels pretty normal starting in 3rd.

I appreciate the "nanny" features on my 2014 GLK 250, such as bing bonging,
turning off the radio, and reminding me to take my key after I shut down
and open the door to exit.. I'm still on a steep learning curve for the
COMAND system, however.

Re: [MBZ] W210 vs. W211

2020-08-06 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
W211s are definitely more refined than the 220 or 210. However, they are
equally more complex as far as the “nanny” stuff. That’s not necessarily bad,
as I don’t think most of it has issues from what I’ve seen.

Things to avoid/be aware of:

Balance shafts in the gassers
Black Death in diesels
Air suspension (optional on most, I haven’t seen it a lot myself)
SBC (brake system) - maybe not a concern since it’s now warranted for 25 years

I would consider one after having the oldest son’s E320 CDI, as despite having
major (327k) miles, it was a nice ride.
