Good point.

Something to be very careful about on these older high mileage CIS cars:

Seals in the fuel distributor, specifically the seal on the plunger that’s on 
the bottom of the fuel distributor, can leak. It’s not difficult to replace, 
but any kind of tinkering with the fuel distributor can be very tricky unless 
you are very, very careful.

My last 300SE had really lousy mileage, which for the short time I owned it I 
couldn’t figure out until (I think Peter) suggested I check the plunger seal. 
Sure enough, it was leaking and as a result I was getting in the low teens when 
I should have been getting in the high teens. I rolled the dice and sold the 
car as-is to a guy who knew nothing about it and assured me that he could sort 
it because he’s “worked on American cars all my life.”

I had visions of him with the fuel distributor in pieces on his workbench…

A 1981 BMW 320i -- for now.  It really is a fun car.  It’s a 5 speed and in 
really amazing shape.  I like it a lot.   But, I do like the 123.   I have 
decided I am not going to buy a cheap one.  If I get another 123, it will be 
perfect and in great shape.   I have seen a few gassers.  I had an 82 Euro 280E 
and it was a fun car.

Looks good, but before it will do another 200k it would probably need a head 
gasket and valve guides somewhere in that time. If it runs well and doesn’t 
burn oil it’s good.

Got those damned wheel well arch trim things. Gawd, how I hate those…

 Depends on how you drive it, I had 2x 240Ds and on my commute I'd get on the 
highway and just put the pedal to the floor. They'd get up to 85mph on the 
flats and just hold. I'd imagine that run north isn't terribly hilly.
As they say its more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.

adjust of the lot, once you bought the special tool.

On the iPhone, at least, there's a knob for that.  So far the only one I've 
turned
off is autocorrect.  I loathe that particular 'feature' with a white-hot

Ex brother in law had one of these that put a high school buddy of mine through 
college. His dad owned a shop where brother in law took his 124 sport coupe, 
which was usually at least once a month. Right after we graduated he ditched 
the 124 and bought a turd brown X1/9. Cool little car but a pig to service. I 
was wrenching by then and he brought it to me to work on, which I politely 
refused once I opened the engine cover and saw what a nightmare it would be.
