That is the sort of trains we have that come thru here. In my current town it’s not so bad as they fly thru. In my old town, they were required to slow say down and it literally took half an hour so sometimes for a train to come thru. There are 2 lines there that cross in town so often one train will have to stop to let the other train pass, blocking off half the town for an hour or longer sometimes. It did not used to be that bad but some many people moved there from Tulsa and the traffic is so bad, it would take another hour after the trains cleared for the traffic to clear up. This is part of the reason I decided it was time to move. [MBZ] OT - Locomotive Power
I was just watching the railfan live feeds in Flagstaff and it’s amazing to me the size of the freight trains that go through there. I just saw one that was nearly all intermodal traffic (containers stacked two high on a rail car) that had 191 cars. Four locomotives up front and three in the middle. [MBZ] The 606 timed properly
The smoke at idle appears to definitely be gone. Took it out for a run and it still put out black smoke at full throttle but I bet that clears out over time after a few Italian tuneups. Seems to have more power as well. Goes to show the cool rolling coal causes less power. It will be interesting to see if the mileage is affected. One thing was strange, when I ran it with the manifold off it set off a check engine light, which It does anytime if have run these with it off and it’s usually for EGR. I checked the codes and it was not a egr code it was for the air flow sensor. I cleared it and it came right back. Pulled one from a different car and it’s ok now. Seems odd it decided to fail now. Never had a check engine light with this car before.
