This is my long term plan for the vast northern estate. The existing plaster will all go, we're going to spray foam the walls and then sheetrock over. Each wall gets at least 2 outlets with more in the kitchen. Re: [MBZ] OT - Home Interior Finish Issue
I purchased a home with sheet panels over unfinished drywall. No adhesive used, not much beyond mud over drywall nail heads. We pulled it all off/down (ceiling got paneled) removed trim (it was unfinished and low grade) and unhooked the baseboard heaters, as well as the odd partitioning wall that divided the space into a pair of 8x10 alcoves (it pretended to be closets). The floor was asbestos tile. The solutions was to mud and tape all the old sheetrock to seal it from air leakage, then to hang ¼ inch on the walls and ½ inch on the ceiling using screws. Mud and tape with a full skim finish coat over all the wallboard. We kept the electric boxes, replaced the sockets and used longer screws to secure them. The ceiling got an extender to the box and hung a new fixture. The floor we laid parquet over asbestos (GIANT PITA) after rolling paint on the ceiling and walls. I prepainted the trim bits and FiL played finish carpenter since he had tools. The room was neither plumb nor square but the molding hid the worst of it. W220. The air suspension on this car when it works well gives an amazing ride. The car handles like it’s on rails which again is amazing for such a large car. Sam Peterson who was/is (?) on this list has one and I drove it and wow! Re: [MBZ] OT - Home Interior Finish Issue
Ugh, I have that stuff in my house too, but at least it's cherry and pretty nice and staying up. There is one more (expensive) proposition, since these are interior walls, and that is to pull it all down and replace it. Last resort, I think, but better than having all the door trim shimmed out. Double drywall will make the house much quieter though! I would pull some down and see how well you can clean it up and skim coat. Worst case the wall will be "patchy". I'd do the smallest room first to see how it works before the hallway where you have to look at it every day. At least it's not like all those old houses in Bloomington, IN that got converted into student rentals where crap grade masonite "paneling" was nailed up through the plaster. Usually broke enough that over a few years the whole mess came down. Re: [MBZ] OT - Home Interior Finish Issue
I would remove the damaged drywall and replace it with new drywall. It will provide an opportunity to upgrade insulation, electrical wiring and perhaps some of the plumbing. Drywall is not terribly expensive and it will likely be better than any repair that you can make to the existing mess. If you replace it, you won't need to worry about the windows and doors needing to be shimmed out etc. Rip out the old stuff yourself and attend to anything in the walls that needs attention and then hire someone to come in and put up the board and tape and mud it. They will do it really fast and it will look great when done. My thoughts: Remove the paneling and adhesive as best as possible. A lot of the adhesive remains are brittle and will come off the drywall, but in some cases it won’t or if it does it pulls the paper off with it. I figure I can skim coat the drywall and use some spray texture to cover these areas. It won’t look great, but it will be far better than painted paneling in our opinion. The only other possibility I can think of would be to put more drywall over the existing drywall to have a consistent surface. Re: [MBZ] OT - Home Interior Finish Issue
Skim coat the drywall. Do a few coats. Knock off the ridges left by the trowel between coats with a knife. No need to sand between coats if you’re good like me . Just light sanding on final coat. Use circular sweeping motions with the trowel or large knife like the pros do. Don’t do wall texture- it’s ugly and passé. Exactly. Nearly 211k on my 1998 W210 wagon and it’s been great for over 30k. Re: [MBZ] Looks Interesting
The Audi 5000 and W124 were very aerodynamic for the 1980s, but the W124 managed to pull it off without looking more aero than the W201. The W210 had a surprisingly low Cd, at least in sedan form. A big improvement over the W124 IIRC, but it brought MB into the 'form follows function' category of styling. Re: [MBZ] PRICE IS FIRM AT $4500 2006 MERCEDES RL - $3, 995 (Rock hill)
Good questions. I might think if it made it this far it might be OK. It might be outside the range if it's a later 06, would need to check the VIN. In case of bad engine range it can be inspected to see if it is worn. First thing would be to get the VIN. Not a bad looking vehicle for the less firm price maybe, but it did not have the tow package so utility would be limited. --FT On 12/15/21 9:38 AM, mitch--- via Mercedes wrote: Is 200k a timing failure waiting to happen, or already repaired, or "it's lasted this long, why should it die now"?
