Chicago just had a case where a license plate scanner spotted a car that had
been reported stolen in a carjacking. The police stopped it and a shootout
ensued. These are going up all over the area, you will not be able to drive

I think it made it into the 40s here today. Started out a little overcast, but 
the brilliant sunshine came out in the afternoon. Supposed to get into the 50s 
later this week with lows in the teens. Brilliant sunshine throughout, however, 
which makes it bearable no matter what the temperature.

It got up to 31F and sunny this afternoon.
That thawed up the tops of the outdoor vehicles and I brushed the wet
snow off of them, but surprisingly enough did not make any of the
icicles fall off the bottom of the ML.

Supposed to get 4-8 inches of new snow Tue-Wed.
I'll wear boots and park up by the road when I come home from work Tue.

The Pittsburgh bus on the tumbled down bridge was riddled with nine cameras.  
It will be used to see why the recent infrastructure boondoggle caused the 
bridge to collapse as a photo op for the current resident.

[MBZ] OT: Battery MINDer

[Curt Raymond via Mercedes]

You might remember the 4D battery on the Tucker Sno-Cat was in poor shape and I 
put it on the Battery MINDer for a week. Yesterday we took the machine out but 
it must have still had a slug of water in the fuel, it had to crank a LOT to 
get running (at 16F) and it took a long time before it warmed up enough to get 
its act together.

The battery held up like a champ! I was shocked by how well it did.

Also Angie's Golf sat on the MINDer for a few days and it started this morning 
at 6F. A week ago it would barely crank at 15F.

I've got 2 of the Battery MINDers and they've both paid for themselves a couple 
times now.

It would appear that they won't recover anything that won't at least charge up 
to 12v but if the battery is just marginal they seem to do a really good job.

We have road cameras but speed monitoring by camera is illegal in SC. 
Some years ago there was a speed trap town that included some of I-95 
down near the Jawja border and after various lawsuits they were made 
illegal but the legislature

Very unpopular in the UK and have been for years.

One time when I was there in the 90s I saw a traffic/speed camera that someone 
had tossed a tyre filled with something flammable over it. It was burning like 
a huge torch. The guy I was riding with said he saw things like this on a 
fairly regular basis. A lot of people were pissed off about them.

Chicago just had a case where a license plate scanner spotted a car that had 
been reported stolen in a carjacking. The police stopped it and a shootout 
ensued. These are going up all over the area, you will not be able to drive on 
any major road without being tracked in real time.

Anyway, nickel, cadmium, and to a lesser degree lead and antimony, are 
valuable as recycled metals.


I believe that lithium is right up there with lead and below copper and 
aluminum.
It's just highly reactive with oxygen and that makes it different to 
handle.

In the history of mankind, the Natural Law of Unintended Consequences has
caused more expense, loss of life, and more oportunity than any other
single thing. In my humble opinion.
In the time when horses were used as motive power, city streets were awash
with what comes out of horses. Flies and other disease carriers thrived on
the digested grain and grass emissions, and mankind was awash with disease
transmitted via those vectors.
As an example.
One wonders what wonderful impact EV equal to anal emission will have as
those products are leaked into the food chain and absorbed by humans.
California in it's forward woke bubble has declared batteries of all types
"Hazard"... perhaps for once, they are actually correct.
I'm sure the problem will be kicked down the road with a clever agency
empowered to "study the problem" funded by a few million [or billion] tax
dollars.
Or, some clever entrepreneur will devise a way to collect the offending
batteries for a "disposal fee" [free to him with profit] and harvest the
rare earth metals they contain at a huge profit [as the world supply of
said metals are exhausted].
"Adversity always makes Opportunity"
