Re: [MBZ] OT Honda issues

2022-03-02 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
In my experience, Hondas, even older ones, with automatics will need a
transmission rebuild between 150-200k miles if not earlier. Had an '06 Element
and an '02 Odyssey that both had transmission failures.

The filter is internal and cannot be changed without removing the transmission
and opening the case. The best you can do is drain and fill the fluid.

Re: [MBZ] Michelin Cross Climate?

2022-03-02 Thread Tony Wirtel via Mercedes
Excellent all around tire. Have put them on my two most recent front wheel
drive cars, and they do everything pretty darn well. Wet weather, dry
handling, even reasonable amounts of snow. If snow is too much for these
then it’s because of ground clearance and you want four-wheel-drive anyway

Expensive, but cheaper long-term than having two sets of wheels and
switching spring and fall. They have the three peak winter rating if
that’s important where you are…and totally usable year round.

That is what I remember you telling me once. Anyway, I was told that I “don’t

I looked at that ‘01 ML320 yesterday and it was a dud. Mr.

and cracks in the bumpers, cracked plastic interior bits. Annoying. So
annoying.

[MBZ] OT Honda issues

2022-03-02 Thread Randy Bennell via Mercedes

An older Honda is a better Honda.

My wife has a 07 Accord that has caused us very little trouble. We
bought it used in 08 with 22K miles on it and it now has 90K miles. It
is the 2.4L 4 cylinder and she drives it hard.

My daughter-in-law has a 13 CRV.  They bought it used in 2015 with about
30K kilometers on it if my memory is correct, and it now has about 130K
kilometers on it. They have had issues with the transmission more than
once. It hasn't needed to be torn apart and repaired but it has had to
have expensive new fluid through it a few times in order to keep it from
shuddering.

Now, the center bearing in the driveshaft has become noisy. Sadly, there
do not appear to be parts to repair it. They had to buy a whole
driveshaft. That sort of nonsense from the car makers is ridiculous. Why
replace a piece 4 or 5 feet long with universals on either end because a
bearing in the middle has an issue?

We intend to retain the old drive shaft and see if there is a way to
take it apart and if a new bearing can be sourced. It would be good to
have a spare in the event that the new driveshaft suffers the same fate.

[MBZ] Michelin Cross Climate?

2022-03-02 Thread Bob Rentfro via Mercedes
The world is nuts. I am shopping tires for my Passat. It appears the only tire
available in any Phoenix area Costco for it are Michelin Cross Climates. They
look odd.
Has anyone experience with these goofy looking things?

Worth checking out. Fuel system might be really goobered up though if it has
been sitting, probably why it won’t light off
