Re: [MBZ] Car Disposal?

2022-06-08 Thread Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes
I don’t know about Florida but here if a vehicle sits for 30days (“abandoned”)
the yard or mechanic can file a lien and then has to auction it off. I’m not
sure how the title sorts out but I think the yard gets it from the state, or
the buyer gets it somehow. In any case the auction sale lets them recover
something. The original owner is out of it at that point. If the vehicle is not
worth much it’s probably easiest to just walk away from it and let it be the
yard’s problem.

Have you priced 2010-2011 Ford Rangers lately? Depending on the severity of the
damages, someone will pick it up at auction and make a handsome profit.
Negotiate with the yard, bring the title and say "here you go". Hopefully they
will take it and be satisfied. If not, lawyers get involved and things get
ugly And expensive. See "Lincoln Park Towing" in Chicago. Steve Goodman
even made a song about them.

Subject: [MBZ] Car Disposal?

Interesting discussion with a neighbor today that I thought might elicit some
responses here that could be of value….

Seems his college aged school son totaled his (the son’s) little pickup truck,
a 2010-2012 Ford of some sort. Because of the minimal value and limited
resources of the son, who works in the summer to pay his bills, the truck had
no collision or comp coverage, so it’s essentially a write-off for him.

Sheriff had the truck towed to an impound lot from the crash site. Three days
in (this apparently happened sometime on Monday) the fees at the impound lot
are already something crazy, like $650, and of course increasing exponentially
every day. The son has no interest in the remains of the vehicle, and certainly
doesn’t have the resources to cover the impound fees. I’m assuming he would
even have to pay to have the wreck hauled off to someplace like CoPart or LKQ,
if they would even want it.

So the neighbor’s wondering (he’s asking me, because he knows I’m a “car guy")
if I think the impound place, a private towing firm contracted to the County
for such services, would just take the title to the truck in lieu of the fees.
I’m thinking that the scrap value of the truck is probably minimal, so even if
he did this they would still want the balance of the fees they’ve charged
to-date. I presume they could take a lien on the truck/title, but even if they
did that it’s still more or less worthless and they won’t get jack out of the
kid, who has reached the age of majority and is not on anything connected to
the parents as far as I know.

Let’s also realize that these places charge exorbitant fees as a way to rip
people off, of course, and I have to believe there are plenty of instances
where they don’t get a dime.

Anyone encounter a situation like this, or know of one or a resolution for it?

Basically yes, but doesn’t really matter if he gives them the title or not. If
the car was worth something and he offered the title, they might actually pay
him something for it but if not, it’s not worth bothering with.

It’s the old fashioned type of vaccine, and should work pretty well. Supposed
to give nearly as much immunity as the mRNA vaccines, and it should have less
side effects.

If you don’t think you can take the mRNA vaccines I’d definitely get the
NovaVax.

I’m fully vaccinated at the moment, and will probably get the dual action
booster from Pfizer when it’s available in August.

No, because you would have to pay the fee to the tow yard before selling it to
lkq etc. If they don’t want it, just don’t pay it.

2022-06-08 Thread Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes
If he doesn’t want the truck, he doesn’t need to do anything. The tow company
will “auction” it off to themselves then put it out back for parts, or sell it
to a salvage yard. He won’t need to pay them anything. Around here a lot of the
tow companies are also salvage yards.

Thanks, Grant.

In this situation I don’t think the neighbor has the slightest clue as to how
to recover it, nor would he want it. I’m wondering if a place like LKQ would
have an interest, and if they did, would they haul it off? Or should he go
there with the title in hand, say, “I’ll give you $200 and the title” and walk
away, for example?

[MBZ] Car Disposal?

2022-06-08 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes

Maybe, you should go over and introduce him to classic old Mercedes? He
could class up the junkyard a bit if he collected MBs instead of Altimas.

One street over from me we have the neighborhood hoarder guy. His
house is on a corner so his shitshow empire is visible from several

Altimas on wheel dollies in various stages of disrepair languishing in
the driveway, two beat up hot dog carts mounted on single axle
trailers and a tandem axle roach coach, and his clapped-out square
bodied GMC he drives and parks in the front yard. His garage is
chock-a-block FULL of everything you can imagine. His back yard is
worse, as seen through the Altima sized hole in the cinderblock wall.

While I was over in Cali doing the doctoring stuff hoarder boy had
some type of accident in his driveway that landed him in the hospital.
His neighbors, wanting to do the seemingly caring thing (but we all
know their motives were selfish….this dump sitting amidst the $1.0
million homes), attacked both the front and back yards cutting weeds
and bagging up all the garbage. Anything they thought hoarder boy
might think useful was neatly stacked in the back yard away from the
Altima hole out of view from the street.

The next day, hoarder boy was told of this Mayberryesque gesture and
he lost his mind. He immediately hired a chain smoking, heat-packing
dude living in an old Dodge pickup with a magnetic sign on the truck
door reading, “VET-SEC. Veteran Provided Security”. This guy sat in a
camp chair on the sidewalk out front of hoarder house, swilling Big
Gulps, with the sole purpose of keeping people off the freshly cleaned
up property.

Needless to say, the parents of the school children who walked along
that road to and from school were not keen on the idea of some sketchy
guy sitting on the sidewalk with a Glock on his hip. John Law visited
him a couple of times, but he remained on his post.

When hoarder boy got out of krankhaus, the VET SEC creeper was gone.
Hoarder boy had relieved him of the  watch.

My thought exactly. Why leave the cookie jar open? Maybe this is an

Re: [MBZ] OK who got a new Benz last night?

2022-06-08 Thread Bob Rentfro via Mercedes
One street over from me we have the neighborhood hoarder guy. His house is on a corner so his shitshow empire is visible from several angles. I think you all can picture it: Tall, nasty dead weeds, three Altimas on wheel dollies in various stages of disrepair languishing in the driveway, two beat up hot dog carts mounted on single axle trailers and a tandem axle roach coach, and his clapped-out square bodied GMC he drives and parks in the front yard. His garage is chock-a-block FULL of everything you can imagine. His back yard is worse, as seen through the Altima sized hole in the cinderblock wall.  While I was over in Cali doing the doctoring stuff hoarder boy had some type of accident in his driveway that landed him in the hospital. His neighbors, wanting to do the seemingly caring thing (but we all know their motives were selfish….this dump sitting amidst the $1.0 million homes), attacked both the front and back yards cutting weeds and bagging up all the garbage. Anything they thought hoarder boy might think useful was neatly stacked in the back yard away from the Altima hole out of view from the street.   The next day, hoarder boy was told of this Mayberryesque gesture and he lost his mind. He immediately hired a chain smoking, heat-packing dude living in an old Dodge pickup with a magnetic sign on the truck door reading, “VET-SEC. Veteran Provided Security”. This guy sat in a camp chair on the sidewalk out front of hoarder house, swilling Big Gulps, with the sole purpose of keeping people off the freshly cleaned up property.  Needless to say, the parents of the school children who walked along that road to and from school were not keen on the idea of some sketchy guy sitting on the sidewalk with a Glock on his hip. John Law visited him a couple of times, but he remained on his post.  When hoarder boy got out of krankhaus, the VET SEC creeper was gone. Hoarder boy had relieved him of the  watch.  AZBob Sent from Mail for Windows From: Randy Bennell via MercedesSent: Wednesday, June 8, 2022 1:56 PMTo: Floyd Thursby via MercedesCc: Randy BennellSubject: Re: [MBZ] OK who got a new Benz last night? They should at least have all of the key fobs locked in a good safe so that the thieves would have a harder time getting the cars moving.  On 08/06/2022 3:04 PM, Floyd Thursby via Mercedes wrote:> It's probably illegal there to have armed guards in the shop at night > to deter/respond to that kind of nonsense, but I'm thinking that some > active response would put an end to that sort of thing right quick> > --FT> > > On 6/8/22 3:35 PM, Randy Bennell via Mercedes wrote:>> However, you can appreciate his frustration at being robbed and >> feeling that the police are doing nothing to prevent it or to catch >> the perpetrators.>> >> Randy>> >> >> On 08/06/2022 2:23 PM, Andrew Strasfogel via Mercedes wrote:>>> It's crazy until a mom and her kids are killed during the chase.>>> >>> On Wed, Jun 8, 2022 at 3:11 PM mitch--- via Mercedes >>> >>> wrote:>>>  And Mr Jidd would have preferred that the cops chase the stolen cars until the thieves wrecked them at triple digit speeds? Re: [MBZ] Novavax COVID

2022-06-08 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
It's my understanding that it has been recommended for approval, but not
officially approve (perhaps mostly a formality at that point).

"FDA officials and committee members raised concerns about a risk of heart
inflammation with Novavax’s shot that are similar to the Pfizer and Moderna
vaccines."

So not sure it's clearly better in that regard.

[MBZ] Novavax COVID

2022-06-08 Thread greg via Mercedes
Hi:

This was just approved by FDA. Anyone have any thoughts on this
(allegedly) conventional protein vaccine?

I stopped with Pfizer's shots when I had a severe reaction (angina) 12
days after the second dose, but would like more real protection.

Can this be trusted?
