I do have to say that I checked Vredestein for her car and they are about the same price. Also much better rated in snow than the ones I was looking at, and that is a prime consideration. We don't get a ton of snow here but one of her complaints about the OE tires was they were bad in the snow so I don't want to have that go unresolved especially paying nearly $800. How are the Vredesteins as far as noise? That is her other complaint. I will have to ask the shop what they would charge to mount/balance if I bring them the tires. According to the Mercedes Medic website the problem with the M273 "450" engines is problems with worn guide idler gear. Just got a quote for tires for wife's car. $775 out the door mounted balanced lifetime free repair and rotation. This is for mid-tier nice-ish all-season tires. At these prices the tires on the Focus (which are all good -- about the only good thing on the car) are worth more than the rest of the car. The 450 has no transmission, no key, and no title but had good body and interior. The 320 needs front bumper supports, bumper, and hood. Will also need a radiator and intercooler. The lights are a common problem with the hydraulic suspension and stability controls though it doesn't look slammed so that is a plus. These can be difficult issues to resolve (ask me how I know!) or it could be something simple. In any case not good on a $12k car. 94 had degradable wiring issues. Top probably doesn't work. Some shitty pics except for the one in its natural habitat at the premium pump. One wonders what that car trailer is doing in the background, likely to haul it somewhere because it is in limp mode due to ASR and ABS issues, or he just dragged it home and realized what mess he had gotten himself into. I wouldn't pay more than $3k for that car as it sits, after scanning to find out what is making it unhappy. Somebody more adventurous might go to 4 but either way you could still be looking at $1000s in parts and lots of time to sort it out.
