That’s generally my calculation. How many hours to change the part, how much do 
I save on the aftermarket part, and how much is my time worth if I have to do 
the job again if the cheaper part fails?  “Lifetime” warranties are great, but 
they don’t pay for the labor.

I bought a package deal from them through Amazon to basically replace a bunch 
of stuff I had but needed replacement. I saw this stuff when I was looking for 
information on DIY ceramic coatings.

Seems like good stuff so far. I bought some stripping wash to clean off the 
CL600 finish and it worked well.

which takes about 1-2 minutes. Then a microfiber towel to wipe/buff off.

I’m skeptical of any of this “ceramic” stuff as when it all boils down to it, 
the thing that matters is how long it lasts. In this climate (Florida) I 
typically wax my cars at least twice a year and often 3-4 times. Since we don’t 
drive that much any more and the cars are inside when not being driven, a good 
wax job will last six months with no trouble at all.

In this case, the finish had a lot of scratches in it, so I clay barred the 
finish, compounded the whole car, then moved to a fine polish (Meguires 200) 
and then a wash. After letting it dry overnight I applied two coats of the 
ceramic coating. It’s a gelatinous sort of stuff but easy to handle and apply. 
First coat, then about six hours later a second coat.

It looks nice, but there’s still some work I could do to take some of the 
deeper scratches out on the right side (you saw a lot of these.) I’m just 
looking for some immediate protection, so this is really a test more than 
anything else. The car will be stored outside under a cover, so I’m still not 
concerned about the elements for the most part. depending on how well it works 
out and holds up, I’ll reapply or move to my go-to, Collinite Insulator Wax 
#845.

I love 040 black because it wears well and cleans up nicely. From 10 feet the 
finish on this car looks very nice.

So do you apply that by hand with a pad of some sort or do it with the buffer?  
I used some Meguiars wax with some sort of ceramic aspect and used the buffer 
after the clay bar, compound, polish steps. Just noticed today it needs it 
again as the water is not beading up.

The electronic keys have always been pricey. I don’t recall them ever being 
that cheap, but I could be wrong.

Again, that’s the electronic key and the blade. Remember that they’re two 
different parts and have to be ordered as such.

 headlights out along with a battery retainer/clamp, the original of which 
 was missing…I’ll take the headlights on this weekend since it involves 
 dropping the front bumper.
 
 Anyway, The best and worst of the day was when I took the car out for the 
 first spin in the neighborhood, and when I returned I noticed a big bulge 
 on the sidewall of the cheap RF Malaysian tire. Grr. So an order for a set 
 of Bridgestone Turanzas went in to my local Costco. They’re scheduled out 
 to April 1st, but I did a walk-in and was able to get an appointment for 
 this Friday. The best of the remaining three cheep Malaysian tires will 
 replace the original OE Michelin that’s on the spare wheel.
 
 So the car has been sitting, more or less, for the time being. Now I’ve 
 got to drive it on a bum tire for about 10 miles and hope it doesn’t blow 
 out.
 
 Anyway, I finally got some glamour shots done after applying the DIY 
 ceramic coating. You can see them here:

It looks pretty easy and straight forward.The cheapest I have found the water pump kit is $252, but I’d have to ship it. I can drive to the ginormous Cummins dealer near my home and snag one for $282. What else should I consider changing out whilst I monkeying around in there? Of course I will inspect the belt and replace if it looks sketchy, but what about the thermostat? clearance light, as the retaining tab had broken on it when I went to change a 
bulb. Picked up the last of the parts I need to sort the headlights out along 
with a battery retainer/clamp, the original of which was missing…I’ll take the
