Well at this point it will either work or not. A new engine isn’t that much and probably fairly easy to swap. Why sweat what you don’t know. Get the pan replaced, pour some oil in it, 
charge the battery and light it off. I’ll be there’s a better than 50% chance 
it will run. Are the cylinders scored? Who cares if it’s running?

Of course the other part of this is if somebody tried to start it while it was sitting at the auction. From the auction pics the dash was lit of so battery was not always dead. Well it’s not locked up. So at least that is a good sign. If they hit something 
within a short time the red low oil warning would have popped up. Perhaps the 
owner was smart enough to shut it off immediately when they hit whatever it 
was. It would have been a hard hit. The oil wouldn’t have drained out instantly 
so there might be a chance.

Damaging the engine is not the most avoid-at-all-costs scenario.  And, sensors 
can lie.
Having the engine spontaneously shutting off in the middle of freeway traffic 
could get
you killed.

I finally got to doing the rear brakes on the 05E320 wagon after 3-4 days of 
murky gloomy rainy weather. It had been sitting a bit. I had ordered new pads a 
coupla months ago but for one reason or another…. Anyway, started last evening 
and finally got a caliper off (FCPEuro blog said 7mm allen nope it’s a T40 torx 
so that impeded progress for some time) and realized the pads I had ordered 
were incorrect. Bah. Not sure how that happened.

Off to AA for new pads (ordered online 20% off code today and returned the 
other set) and saw the pad had a sensor hole so got 2 of those, although I did 
not see a sensor or connector for the old pad. Driver side goes on fine, no 
sensor wire visible so just put on the pad and done. Pass side did have a 
sensor which was ok on that pad so reused it. That’s kinda weird.

The outboard pad on the driver side had worn completely down but the inboard 
was fine and maybe 1/2 thick. I had thought for some time it might be dragging 
and I guess it was. Pass side pads were fine and still very thick. The piston 
on the driver side seemed a little stiff but moved ok but the difference 
suggests that one caliper is not working right. I’ll watch these new pads and 
if it keeps dragging I guess I’ll need a new break caliber and hoes.

Oh, this car has SBC do there is a sequence of looking the doors, putting down 
driver window, unlocking then locking again with wait times in between. Strange 
but I guess it works because the SBC didn’t fire. When I was jacking up the 
driver rear it set off the alarm which was wheezing and barely noticeable. This 
car doesn’t appear to have a switch for towing to shut off the alarm unless 
it’s somewhere I didn’t see it. Whatever, it shut up after awhile.

Gave it a good interior clean and wash and it looks pretty good for 654miles 
shy of 250k!  I really like this car.

Seems kinda shady but could maybe be an interesting deal.  He's probably 
staying moved ahead of the repo man


but I am behind on moves and willing to sell as is for a great price car 
has a clean interior and exterior with a strong engine and transmission 
no mechanical issues runs and drives great with power everything with 
all working parts and a clean leather interior. This car is being sold 
as is but I have copies of the original bill of sale and copies of the 
title just not actual title if you can use this deal I'm flexible for a 
serious buyer.

[MBZ] I picked up the copart s500

2 owner car, first owner only had it a year. It’s really clean, even smells 
good inside. Battery dead so don’t know yet what the mechanical damage is.

When I was attending MIT in Cambridge MA there was a sign on Mass Ave just as 
you crossed the bridge coming from Boston, right in front of campus, that said 
“Cambridge is a Nuclear-Free Zone”.  About 1/4 mile on down was the MIT 
research reactor. The irony was always refreshing. 

At some point they put up signs that said “Cambridge is a Domestic Violence 
Free Zone” but they were in the hoity-toity parts of town not the towny part of 
town, e.g., where the marathon bombers Joker and Speedbump lived. I don’t think 
those signs worked either. I did always wonder if the violence was free, or it 
was a free zone, or what.
