I stayed summers with my grandparents who lived on a gravel road. In the summer 
it was incredibly dusty. At some point the oil truck would come by and spray 
the road. It knocked down the dust but for a few days the oil would get up on 
cars. My dad cussed that a lot.

I remember, back on the farm, we had a 300 gallon water tank on a trailer that 
my grandfather into an oil sprayer for all the dirt/gravel roads around the 
homestead. The neighbors would bring their used oil down and dump it in, 
knowing we’d run down by their house.
At 7 years old that was my job, after I learned how to drive the 1944 Farmall 
M, pulling that oil trailer knocking the dust down. 
I’m thinking doing that today would cause a ruckus.

There is some waste value to it, it can be recycled but I'm sure it's not worth 
a lot.

wanting to pickup waste oil. Not sure what they do with it, perhaps waste oil

Never bought anything at O'Reilly, but I did dump some waste oil there once. 
Otherwise, I would have had to drive about 20 miles 'round trip to the city's 
hazmat dropoff place.

What's weird is that they had a "sign in sheet" where you were supposed to put 
your name and phone number if you were dropping off waste oil. Turd Ferguson 
dropped off the oil for me.

[MBZ] Aux batteries

[Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes]

A large warrior woman delivered 2 new cheap aux batteries today. Put one in the 
05E320 wagon and it was Happy, no red screen of death on the display. Put the 
other in the $400E500 (I’m up to maybe $700 now what with the airbags I got for 
it) and it took a coupla minutes to get Happy. 

I put the new oreilly battery back in the CL600 and took out the new Interstate 
battery. I think I’ll put that in the CL500 and have that one new, then I can 
have the older battery as a spare and for dinking around with other cars. 

I have to get those airbags in the E500 and figure out what the issue is with a 
fuel level sender. Apparently that’s a common problem. I think I looked at the 
connection and that was ok so I guess I’ll have to get another one. Maybe the 
knacker car I got the airbags from still has one (or two maybe, I think it has 
a saddle tank arrangement). And the AC was not BLOWING ICE COLD although it was 
sorta blowing lukecool recently. I guess it needs some cool juice when I get it 
sorted. I need to clean it up with a good detail too, the interior is in nice 
shape but just kinda musty and dusty from sitting.

The alternative is to go to a hydraulic hose place and have them make a 
hose/flexible line to replace the hard line. Run it wherever you can and 
abandon the hard line in place. I've seen where some people have done this.

If I had the shop with a lift and some extra $$ I would LOBALL cars like
this and fix them, drive them, sell them, whatever.  It's a shame to see
a supercar go to shite for lack of proper upkeep and maintenance.  The

Sadly, these ABC-equipped cars are getting dumped for reasons like this. Of course, 
there's always the "shock/coilover conversion" approach, but that pretty much

The surface rust I saw above the rocker trim is kind of unusual. Usually the 
door bottoms and outer skin are toast, but the rockers can be really, really 
ugly, as it can take years for it to be visible/apparent from the outside. Best 
way to check on a W108/110/111/112 is to take the rock guard and wheel well 
lining off the front of the rocker panel and look there. That's typically where 
it gets a hold and then once it penetrates the cover it's game over - the 
rockers will rust from within.

[MBZ] Battery

The battery that was in the CL600 was about new when I got the car, 
12/21 date on it.  It died and would not take a charge. Took it to 
OReilly today and they gave me a new one.  Guy tried to look it up under 
my account, I told him I had the guy I bought the car from had just put 
the new battery in, he found some random sale of a battery and used that 
for the return.


Worked out nicely.  Price new on it was $221 which is about what the 
Interstate was from Costco the other day.

As long as the "hose" that the ABC needs isn't the one that runs the length of 
the car and requires the rear subframe to be dropped to R&R it...

Sadly, these ABC-equipped cars are getting dumped for reasons like this. Of 
course, there's always the "shock/coilover conversion" approach, but that 
pretty much removes one of the most desirable aspects of this model.
