IIRC, setting off the 4Matic traction nannies results in a blinking
yellow triangle with an exclamation point inside it.
But normally, a tire size discrepancy just gets you the blinking
triangle shortly after you start driving, and disabled traction control.
Possibly an ABS warning and disabling too.

Got ya. I’m thinking the same, a step or 2 down is probably best and would most

I replaced my AC (outdoor compressor/condensor unit and indoor evaporator) in
2018. I did not buy the top efficiency model, I think I went one step below
that, it was quite a bit cheaper and it seemed like the extra cost of the best

Compressor died on heat pump. I have this service contract and just looked at
the service ticket and looks like they are replacing condenser and I have $120
in non covered charges. Have to find out what that is. I’m going to assume they
are replacing condenser only and not inside unit. I understand this can be done
but will be mismatched and not as efficient. I’m going to call the contractor
tomorrow to see what the plan is, but also going to ask about paying any
difference to replace the inside unit as well.

This leads me to seer ratings. Is it worth paying more for higher ratings?
Energy savings worth it? What about here 2 stage versus single stage units?

Thats whats got me impressed about this Brasilia, not many of them here in the

maybe 6 or 7 years old.

2023-12-28 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
I researched RTA cabinets a few years back when we were considering remodeling
the kitchen in the Florida manse. To be honest, I don’t recall what vendors I
looked at, other than to say it was like buying a pair of eyeglasses, or so it
seemed. Everyone did the same styles and colors, there wasn’t a lot in the way
of variations between most of the vendors. Wood specie, cabinet style, and
hardware were the driving costs, or so it seemed. You can probably get some
deals through the local Amish community if you look into it.

I know I was planning on paying someone to come in and measure. It wasn’t much,
and it also cut down significantly on the potential for mistakes, or so I
figured.

I’ve built kitchen cabinets from scratch on several occasions so this wasn’t
anything new for me. For that matter, simply installing and hanging cabinets
isn’t that difficult. It was definitely cheaper than anything I could get
through a big-box store like Home Despot or Lowe’s, as we had one of them put a
quote together for us to get an idea of the cost. Ouch!

We ultimately decided to have the cabinets refinished. Too bad, as they were
actually pretty nice solid maple builder’s grade cabinets with a clear finish.
I hated the idea of painting them, but that’s what Mrs. Dan wanted.

Re: [MBZ] 2001 Mercedes ML55 AMG

2023-12-28 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
Yes, I meant to mention to the group that HF had a good deal on a Bauer(?) RO
polisher this past week. I have one of the old $40 RO polishers from some years
back, and it’s working just fine.

And as far as the paint, if it looks like it will clean up, great! That, or
invest in a good detailing and let the detailer have at it. They’ll be able to
make it look decent, I bet. The only catch is if there is a clearcoat
(probably) and it’s started coming off. If so, there’s little you can do but
drive and enjoy.

But - it would be a good negotiating tool, too, especially if you go see it
with some dead presidents in pocket. They tend to do a great deal of
communicating when brought into the conversation if you know what I mean.
Especially since the seller, clearly a poor negotiator, has already tipped
their hand as to why others have passed on the car.

Looks fairly nice but don't care for the wheels. Listed as a 380 but badging
says 450. No photos showing soft top. Price seems ambitious?

[MBZ] OT: RTA kitchen cabinets

Has anyone purchased Ready-To-Assemble (RTA) kitchen cabinets, and would care
to share a recommended (or not) vendor?

I'm looking at doing a kitchenette/bar project in the basement and considering
going with RTA cabinets to save a bit of money.

They are one of MBs silly hot rods (lets stuff a big ass engine in this SUV,
just because…) but work very well. Very capable off road too. The ML63 is more
outrageous but probably not as reliable as the 55. If you get it you’ll have
some good fun and enjoyment.

Good luck!

Once you get it, if you choose to, let me know and maybe we can plan a mini-‘Q
and install your hitch! We could come down to the valley and thaw out.

A hitch is cheap and easy although there might be some quirks on the 55.
The spare is in the hatch area because of exhaust pipes or something
 underneath. Etrailer will know.

The 63 M156 engine in the W164 etc has the head bolt issues in earlier

Time for a reset here…

I got confused between the W210 E55 and the ML55. My bad, it sucks to grow old
sometimes…

The ML55 looks nice. Other than cosmetics, you should be good with the rest.
It’s a solid drive train and engine. That, and the ML55 had some nice little
amenities, like the trip computer in the upper console, and a spare that’s
stored inside the cargo area rather than below the car, for example.

Adding a hitch is the same for any W163 across the board. Hitch and a brake
light isolator will set you back about $200, along with maybe an hour or two of
installation time. Easy-peasy.

Yep, tires are all the same.

Others (thank you) have implicated the 4matic and that's what it feels like
to me. It's not trying to shift, it's just as though someone is

That's quite high for the miles and is not a 4matic.  I would see more
like $3k unless it is in excellent condition then maybe $3500.  But that
said they are great cars and very usable.  I don't know how a hitch
would mount, look on etrailer.com they will have some info on it.

No, nearly every W210 of that vintage was that color. Silver or champagne.

Price is a little optimistic for the miles and condition, but at $5k it would
be a deal if the provenance is good. They’ve owned it since 2012, so that says
something positive about ownership and maintenance.

Re: [MBZ] 2001 Mercedes-Benz E320 Low Mileage

2023-12-28 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
Desert camo colors.  I had the 99E300 and 99E320, both cars were very
reliable and didn't need much of anything in the time I drove them.

The diesel I got for $500 and cleaned the intake and it then ran great.
The $600 gasser had a bad conductor plate, put in a new one and drove
that car for a coupla years, it was great.

Boy that’s the truth, Rick. The seller is a man of few words…and less responses having not answered my questions about the car(are there AC issues? Is the clearcoat peeling? You’re length of ownership? Any service records? Odometer working?). Clown. I may just tell him I’d like to see it and ask face to face. AZBob   Sent from Mail for Windows From: Rick Knoble via MercedesSent: Wednesday, December 27, 2023 10:01 PMTo: Mercedes Discussion ListCc: Rick KnobleSubject: Re: [MBZ] How is it I Have Never Seen This? To answer the question"How is it I Have Never Seen This?" FBMP search engine sucks. It is quite possibly the worst platform for internet sales searching since Al Gore invented the internet.  Rick___http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to:http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] Can be hard to start. 1974 Mercedes-Benz 240d,$4,000

2023-12-28 Thread Peter Frederick via Mercedes
Check for blow-by too, don't know if it was fixed by 74, but the 72 engines
were known for pre-mature cylinder wear due to the alloy used for the block.
