Every Mercedes I have seen (I have not seen an ML350) has a means to
align the hood to the rest of the vehicle.

I would look at where the hinges attach to the hood and to the body.

I would try loosening the hinge attachments to the hood on the wonky side
and pulling on the hood to see if it moves.

You show the alignment of the hood to the fenders at the front.

What does the alignment of the hood to the air intake/windshield wiper
sheet metal at the rear of the hood look like?

It is really slick how they have a computer-generated picture of how the
wheel and tire fit relative to the mounting hub for both before and after

It is unfortunate they only allow incremental inch sizes and not
half-inch sizes. All my heavy vehicle wheels and tires are half-inch size.

I need to get some of that insulation on lines out at the unit. There is about a foot of it missing right out of the unit. I can say it’s about 12 outside and the large line is too hot to touch. So even at these temps it’s still pulling a good amount of heat out of the air. And yes, I do believe the coil is much larger on this unit than the old one. It’s nearly teicd as tall as the old one and only slight more narrow.Sent from my iPhoneOn Jan 13, 2024, at 2:57 PM, Andrew Strasfogel wrote:I guess heat pumps have improved their efficiency since the 70s.On Sat, Jan 13, 2024 at 11:33 AM Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes wrote:HSPF is 10.6.  The old Rheem indoor air handler/coil is rated at 16 Seer. They have, significantly.

I’ve got a couple of mini-split air source heat pumps at the AZ house, where
it’s been getting into the teens and single digits at night of late. Both are
rated at 90% or better at -4F, as I recall. I really wished we had looked into
a ground source heat pump for the house instead of replacing the aging gas
furnace.

Yep. Up to 92 they had the 260E aka 300E 2.6. Just a lower trim lower cost 124.
This one will have the 2.8 version of the 104. Car looks clean but may or might
not be overpriced.

2.6, the cheaper entry-level version.  A friend bought one a couple
years old from his friend who was moving overseas for a job. Competent
enough as a 124 but somewhat underpowered. I vaguely recall it might
have been a Euro model the guy picked up over there, maybe a 4spd?

HSPF is 10.6. The old Rheem indoor air handler/coil is rated at 16 Seer. I
figured the unit as a whole would run 16.

[MBZ] New heat pump

2024-01-13 Thread Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes
After running in emergency mode on the heat pump since before Christmas, the
new heat pump was installed Thursday by American Home Shield’s contractor. It’s
a Lennox Merit series 5 ton unit which is their base models. It seems to run
more quietly than that old Rheem. I asked the contractor for a quote to replace
the inside air handler/coil at the same time which came out to a little over
$5k. I considered doing it but decided not to since since AHS will have to
replace it if it were to fail. This new unit is rated for 17 seer where the old
one was 13. The Rheem inside unit is rated for up to 16 seer so I am going to
assume that is what I will have with the overall system.

Yesterday it was in the low 20’s and unit ran almost continuously but didn’t
notice aux heat coming on, and it kept the house very comfortable. Even set at
the same temp as always it felt warmer in the house than the old Rheem. Maybe
it was just my imagination. Currently it’s 10 outside and is supposed to get up
to 18 by late this afternoon. I did notice it had had heat on a little while
ago. At these temps I would expect it to come on periodically. Tonight will get
down to below zero temps.
