[MBZ] fuel filter washer leaks
Yes-that 78 240D seems to need a new washer every time-we had trouble with that since my brother bought it. That said, in the last two weeks I have had friends who had leaks on top of filters for OM617's -usually can't torque it away. I carry spares in glove box. Yesterday my friend found some copper washers at a FLAPS. I usually order a few from Rusty. Question Rusty-why don't they include the washers with the filters? Allan, Like you I have used Mobil 1 ATF in older MB automatics. I don't know specs -seems like a lost cause thread anyway-but I went last week to get some Mobile 1 ATF for my new 300 CD and noticed they now had two versions-the old fully synthetic ATF and the newer Mobil 1 synthetic for Dexron- bottle said 2007 and newer so I am putting the regular Mobil 1 synthetic in my 300CD. My 79 240D had Mobil 1 ATF in for about 80K miles and it worked great-esp. with all the torque from that engine. Also just changed the fluid in my 90 300D and replaced the Mobil 1 that was put in 70K miles ago. I notice shift differences esp. smother cold first shifts in winter. My CD needs some tranny healing so I trying the magic elixir as the fluid in there has been in for long time and the car sat before I got it. I am a believer. Dimitri, The 'official' start time is around 10 AM when we roll out the Dunkin Donuts and coffee. We eat about 1PM. If you needed to leave sooner the Chowdah will be ready early as I make it the night before. We usually end about 4PM. We are not far off I 95-between Exits 5 6 in RI. Kaleb, It's about 3 1/2 hours-175 miles from Goddard Park to Portland ME. Depends on how far downeast or up north you are in Mane as Portland is really southern Maine. But the picnic site is only 10/15 miles off I 95 so if you were going through, it would be an easy stop.. I work out of Boston-it's exactly 70 miles from my house to south Boston-the near the JFK museum. The picnic is a bit further north east from Wickford- it's about 70 miles to Logan Airport in Boston and 65 miles from downtown. It's only about 5 miles from Providence airport. Oh-OK-that's about the same distance- probably an hour and half (unless you are driving a 240D.) Well we have had a lot of fun the last three years even when we dodged raindrops. This year's ChowdaQ blew all expectations, 10 MB's (2 of other marques) with 15 people. We even had 3 previous unknowns from the PeachParts gang. We had our wides variety of chow yet, Dwight started us off with A1 Chowda, Fred brought the greens and I cooked up a variety of meats including terriaki beef skewers, chicken kabobs, burgers, hot dogs and spicy moose sausage (no joke!) Tom rounded out the day with fresh espresso to settle our stomachs. Awards we given for jalopys, not so jalopys, story telling expertise and cooking expertise (that might be a stretch) complete with impressive trophys Burt provided. Door prizes included a polo shirt donated by Rusty, a copy of The Star and the Laurel from Dwight and a new in box MB hood star from Fred. Several test drives were taken and comparisons made to cars current and past and a fine time was had by all.
