[MBZ] Vacuum amplifier

2007-05-03 Thread Eric Anderton

On my 85 300D T recently when the engine is to temperature the
transmission has started shifting like it has a lack of vacuum. It
goes from really nice responsive smooth shifting to real clunky
sluggish shifts. I have hooked up my mity vac and the modulator on the
transmission holds vacuum. The blue amplifier that the modular runs
off of however does not. What are some things I could look at to
narrow this down a little? I really do not seem to have a vac leak.
Can the blue amplifier go bad? how would I test this?
Many Thanks.

[MBZ] Reserve Fuel Can

2007-02-20 Thread Eric Anderton

Many people have mentioned to me dangers of the reserve fuel can,
without thinking about its location. Remember this can is designed to
fit INSIDE a full size spare tire. Imagine the force it would take in
an accident to travel through an inflated tire and steel rim!

Leaking, now that's another story.

[MBZ] Reserve Fuel Can

2007-02-17 Thread Eric Anderton

Well I couldn't resist anymore and bought one of those reserve fuel
cans that fit inside the spare you see all the time on ebay. Now that
I have it I was wondering if someone could share the story behind them
with me. This is the can that fits in the spare wheel, what
applications originally used this container? Was their a special bolt
that held it in, as the stock one is too short to reach though it to
the mounting bolt? Was this a european market only item?
Many Thanks,

I found a NOS tank on the German Ebay site. ebay.com/de
just enter in your chassis and you shouldn't have too much trouble finding one.

[MBZ] 115 Vacuum Pump Oiling

2007-01-21 Thread Eric Anderton

Well after surfing around on my 114/115 MB Service Manual CD I discovered to my
chagrin that the vacuum pump on my 74 240D requires maintenance by
addition of oil. I cant tell from the diagram in the procedure, but it
looks like you have to unbolt and remove the pump from the engine in
order to access the oil fill plug. Has anyone had any experience doing
this? When did MB switch to automatic oiling of the pump from the
engine? I have never read any mention of this needing done for my 85
300D.

If anyone should happen to have a copy of the 114/115 CD handy, please check out
job# 704 titled checking oil level in vacuum pump. Glad to hear that
this is not a common practice, but it is in the Maintenance Manuel
Index. I would be happy to email a pdf to anyone who would like to
take a look at it

[MBZ] 115 Vac Pump Oiling

ahh,
Thanks Jim. That fact escaped my attention. One less item is now on my
to-do list.

I have never seen one of those belt-driven vacuum pumps.
Ours are all cam-driven from the front of the injection
pump. If you did have a belt-drive vacuum pump, of
course it would need oiling.

That page is for the 115.01X car, which is a gasser.
Don't know why one of those would need a vacuum pump,
unless it was a booster like my Falcon has. (For the
windshield wipers.)

[MBZ] 115 Dash Clocks`

2006-12-29 Thread Eric Anderton

Working on getting a working clock into my 115 and have come across two OE
VDO clocks. My question is. One is a VDO Kienzle and the other is a
VDO Quarz-Zeit. What is the difference between the two? Is one more of
a mechanical (ticking) clock? Also what would be an easy way to power
them up for a test should I not have the car available to pop them
into.
Thanks.

[MBZ] 74 240D Injection pump leaker

2006-12-20 Thread Eric Anderton

So I filled up my injection pump with M1 this past weekend on my new
74 240D only to find after a few minutes of idiling in the driveway it
had spewed all the oil over the driveway. What is the likely cause for
this? How do I go about making the pump oil tight again?
Many thanks

[MBZ] W115 First Aid Location

2006-11-06 Thread Eric Anderton

Purchased a first aid kit and mounting shelf for my 74 240D the other
day and now I call upon the advice of experts. I have always believed
the correct place to hang the shelf that hold the kit was under the
glove box, on the passenger side kick panel. Recently talking to a
friend who has a 220D his first aid kit is mounted in the trunk. Where
were they mounted when they left the factory? Was this a dealer add on
that could have been placed at the discretion of the new owner?
Many thanks,
