Re: [MBZ] PARTS!!!!
Anybody have a source for a front double Window switch from a 123? $250 for new oem sounds a bit rich. The aftermarket ones supposedly do not light up? Re: [MBZ] New Diesels available in the US now:
Yes I recall an oil analyst about 15 years ago describing how converting more of the passenger fleet to diesel would not make economic sense because there is virtually no reserve refining capacity in North America so any increase in consumption of diesel would drive the price up and thereby negate the financial benefit to drivers. Seems like he was correct. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com All posts are the result of individual contributors and as such, those individuals are responsible for the content of the post. Re: [MBZ] Welding helmet - finale
my old Jackson eqc auto dark was flashing me, so I ordered a fiber metal with the nice new angular dependency compensation auto dark filter from Balder.si which took weeks to arrive but is great. while waiting for it however, I put a passive gold lens in the Jackson and upgraded the headgear for a total of $28 and pretty much fell in love with that setup. try the gold fixed shade. you will like it. Seems like all the pro welders I know run a huntsman cardboard helmet with a small athermal (philips) gold. it throws light back at the field from your viewing angle. Nice color. Re: [MBZ] Nice Green Finnie
had the 1960 190d. Nice little car but fundamentally this body style is not worth more than 3k no matter what motor is in it. sold it to a chef in Mississippi to run wvo. Anyway kind of a joke at 7500 when you can have a nice Ponton for less maybe even with the webasto. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] transmission rebuilding bad vibrations
Yes I am running out of problems to chase down with the car just now so this one rises to the top. putting the car on stands and winding up to 80 sounds a bit too much like ferris Buehler s day off, but is otherwise a fine idea. I didn't follow the bit about 80 on stands without the driveshaft, though it seems like a safer way to test! cannot see wheel bearings doing this. thanks for your thoughts ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
Re: [MBZ] transmission rebuild / vibration issue
sorry if someone thinks this is spam anyway I mistyped it is not 120 times per second but 120 per minute, so 2 maybe even 3 or 4 vibrations per second. I will do a little math and figure out how fast the wheels spin at 75. Maybe take some video to get a better rate estimate. Thanks for your input. Re: [MBZ] Vibration Was: transmission rebuild
Yes 1985 w123 300tdt ok the wheel spins 17 times per second at 75mph or much faster than the vibration. So it cannot be a wheel out of balance. has to be a harmonic of something if it is due to a rotating part, or the suspension resonating. someone mentioned alignment. it has been aligned at least twice without any change. again I just replaced flex disks and the carrier mount with no difference. so far I'm liking the shock idea. I've seen cars go down the road with a wheel bouncing up and down. could be it. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Yahoo on my phone is showing that the email I'm replying to is attached, but omitting it when I send. Sorry. the brilliant thought was the Mercury Sable with a worn out shock that would permit suspension resonance at certain speeds. I only have one shock in the rear of the wagon that is original. it is one of those expensive self leveling suckers though. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] was transmission rebuild / now vibration
Gerry re: replacing shocks in pairs yes, but most shocks don't cost 600 dollars each, or whatever these shocks seem to cost, and I didn't have much money at the time. the one I replaced was clunking when I went over bumps. the other I left for another day. I'm not sure what a normal life span is for those units. they are not normal shocks. some would say you should replace the whole car every time something goes wrong, but I try not to listen to them. Pretty much everyone I know here in LA leases a new one every year or two. it is expensive, but getting anything repaired here takes more time than I generally have available. so I try to do things in bunches. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
Re: [MBZ] transmission rebuild
just a follow up. A rebuilt transmission shifts way better than one with 182000 mostly city miles on it. no more 1-2 thud and the 3-2 downshift ka-chung is gone also. Basically it behaves like a normal modern auto Transmission car now. No more driving around town in S to avoid the nasty downshift around corners! Smooth operator. now if I can only find the whole car vibration at 75 MPH, must be a bent wheel as I have had four or five sets of new tires on it over the years and now have replaced flex disks and the driveshaft bearing hangar and rebuilt the tranny and it still vibrates. Or a bent driveshaft I guess. Half shafts seem OK. Might be time to spring for the 15 Bundt cake wheels. Yup. I posted here on Tuesday am I think, Trans rebuilt over and back from SV on wed and the car was ready Thursday. sun Valley had it less than 24 hours total. Re: [MBZ] transmission rebuild
with lots of good tire shops changing tires and balancing rotating over the years, nobody ever said a wheel was out of true. so unlikely I concede. so maybe that joint. feels like it is under the console or seat. Seems like maybe 120hz at 75mph. vibration, not much sound. stops again above 80. I have driven it that way since 2001. nobody can figure it out, but most mechanics never test drive at that speed. k Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

I asked Mark at SV about the metallic clutches also. he said he does not use them because they shed metallic debris which over time galls the aluminum housing anywhere it is subjected to wear from moving parts. Re: [MBZ] transmission rebuild
FYI Sun Valley must be a volume operation. the rebuilt transmission and torque converter are on their way back to my car. I asked if it was the same transmission and torque converter and he said yes, they open the torque converter, check the bearing, adjust tolerances and put (weld?) it back together, then bolt the same one up to the same transmission. this seems like less than 24 hour turnaround. [MBZ] transmission rebuild
Ok so I am on a quixotic quest to eliminate oil leaks from my 1985 wagon. The insurance from my recent fender bender guy pulling out in front of me left me with about 2k to spend on other items. The tranny leaks from the front seal. Enrique wants 2k to pull, rebuild with all new seals and clutches and reinstall. 400 to fix the seal alone. It has 182k on it and shifts like a dream. What does the peanut gallery think about 1600 extra for a rebuild since the slush box is coming out anyway? I know it ain't cheap but I drive it every day to work in Beverly Hills and it is lots less than a bugatti. I just don't want it staining up the drive at preschool, neighbors house, home etc. Comments please. Re: [MBZ] transmission rebuild
Thanks to all who responded. I will check out sun Valley. From what everyone is saying Enrique is maybe a couple hundred high on the rebuild and about 150 low on the r and r, so about the going rate. On a technical Note, what does sun Valley do to beef them up? Should I have them put higher performance clutches in a la the dieselmenken / myna om603 pump stroker crowd? thanks again, karl Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
