I'm about to replace the thermostat on my little buddy 190d 2.2 manny Billy won't warm up past 50c. I call him billy because he climbes like a goat, this being my first diesel (I'm hooked already) I'm amazed how hard it is to lug him down, I've done lots of t-stats on Detroit v8s right up front on top. when I locate this one I plan to open the drain plug down by the tow hook, drain the radiator of yellow juice, replace the tstat (with valve on top)and refill the reservoir. My question is vapor lock do I need to worry about starting up with empty radiator (full reservoir)what am I missing? Why does everything get more complicated the older I get. The more I learn the more I realize how little I know. I just ran over and took a look at this SL, looks good But I'd have to find/put engine in I guess, probably not worth the hastle but I like the six and the bumpers on a euro. This guy has an 84 190d manny nice in/out yellow beige but clutch pedal is siesed, can't push in pedal even with full force, runs great been sitting 3 years just jumped it and started right up no smoke 220k. it was in the previous owners garage 2 years, his daughter brought it home that way, maybe another result of gas/brake/clutch mixup syndrome discussed here, any ideas? my 85 190d manny needs a little sister. I just got this little guy a month ago after owning various gassers and its a real treat to drive, one question I have, the temp gauge doesn't get past 60c and oil pres pops right up to 3 and stays there.
