With exception of the wagon. I've wondered about modifying the sedan rear
lights to look like a 201, I would think adding some lense-like triangle pieces
to the trunk might help. I seem to recall seeing an aftermarket piece of
reflective lense-like plastic that went all the way across the trunk between
the tail lights.

Agreed-Actually my 124 has grown on me over the five years I have had it.
One day I parked the 123 and 124 side by side-both white so easier to
compare profiles. The 124 looks nice all the way back to rear pillar and
then the raised, shortened trunk seems abrupt where the 123 visually flows
all the way back and balances front and back. . (I know nothing about formal
esthetics, but...) Actually if I found another 300D 2.5t in good condition
I would stock pile it, although I hope to get another 5 or more years out of
mine.

There are a few kits you can get, or could get to mod the rear lights. They
were somewhat trendy back in the 80s when people liked to bolt stuff on
their cars. Hood kits a la SEC were somewhat popular too. Not sure if such
kits are even still available, but I do see some old W124s still running
around with they, so maybe you could snag some at a breakers yard or
something.

Hi Ed,
I feel the same about my '91 300D. It's as close to the perfect all around
car as I can imagine. It may have a little problem here and there - things
I might do different if starting from scratch - some things demanded by by
DOT or EPA might be dropped but in general, it's a great car. As much as I
like the W140, I think the W124 is more user friendly over all.

I've ever looked at, sat in, or driven. Feel in love with them when they
were brand new, and always wanted one. I still get a big smile looking at
it, and sitting in it. How many people can say that about a 4 door sedan!
I only wish they still made brand new ones, just like it.

I was really thinking about parting with it a few months back, as it now
needs a bit or top end work, and a bit of minor bodywork here and there,
to
keep it as it should be kept. I think I'm going to spend the money, and
try
to extend it's life as much as possible. It's no longer a daily driver,
and
has been relegated to a hobby car in ways, which is a position it has
well

earned, with 360,000 km on the clock now. It has been loved and cared for
all it's life though, and it shows. :-)

And on a side note, I wish they would offer steering wheels like those in
the W124 on their new models. As much as I like the new E Series, (which
I
think is an amazing car!), I really don't like the padded steering wheels
in

them. I don't even mind a leather wrapped wheel, but I like the material
under the leather, or covering to be very hard and dense, not spongy as it
feels in the new E Class.
