 Steve,
About 300 for frame, about 100 for contoured pad (needed IMHO) and labor.
IN my case labor was only 100 because my upholstery man owns 123's and had
done them before. Fro me it was 500 dollar bill.
But the best thing I ever did on my 123 240D.

 Randy,
I'm new to this list but wondered how hard it was to redo the bottom
part of the seat on the 123. The leather on my 85 is in great shape
but the bottom cushion is flat. Just remove the entire seat from the
car and then stretch to leather cover off of the bottom frame?
 Thanks for any insight.

Pretty much. Very common are broken springs, the pads themselves
can also decompose and fall to pieces. Or both. I have had some
success with welding splints (casts, really) over broken spring
ends, but if it breaks again I just re-do it. You can also get
a good passenger seat from a local junkyard and swap in the spring
box. Those results are usually better, but I've lived with the weld
until a good spring box shows up. Seats are $20/pair at the U-Pull.

Wouldn't hurt to leave a message under the wiper blade with your contact
details, before you can really set a price you would need to know more about
the car, such as service history, any rust, etc.
You may well find that the owner is Diesel MB fan as well and not interested
in selling.

Might get that mileage on the highway, if you're lucky. City will
probably be 20 - 25 MPG.

If the ACC works (both heat and AC), and the mileage is accurate (I'd
kind suspect a broken odometer if there is visible wear on the MB-TEX
at 130K. My 300D has over 170K now and the MB-TEX (dark blue) still
looks really good) it would probably be worth that.

Unfortunately, the cost will likely be more given you are asking to buy and
he or she is not asking to sell. It
sounds good - pay what you have to within reason to get it. When you are
talking about $1500 to $5000 for a good
car, it really does not matter all that much what it costs. Looking for a
deal will not get you the car that you
want unless you happen to be really lucky.

I paid a proverbial arm and a leg for my old 300D compared to the numbers
that you folks normally bandy about, but
I am happy with it and think I really got a bargain. Going into my 3rd
summer with really nothing done but oil
changes (and restuffing the base on the driver's seat).
