AZ did the same thing. The nub on the crew would be standing at the rear of the
car holding the opacity meter in the exhaust stream. We’d have to do it three
times and it would average the readings. Every one of my diesels always passed
with wicked low numbers.
When I would take in the Cummins I would have to sit with it in park and rev it
up and hold it at 3K rpm until the dude dropped his hand….do that three times.

In FL they used to dyno test diesels with a particulate tester. I had my 82
300SD at the time, among other diesels, and before I tested I would do a
proverbial Southern European peninsula tune-up.

Scary, though - you’re on this dyno, the car isn’t anchored in any way, and
there's this computer screen off to the side giving you the speed you’re
supposed to be running at. 60 mph while stationary is a scary feeling.

It was fun, back when I was driving diesel MB's to see the inspection guy pull

Re: [MBZ] 1976 Mercedes Benz 450SLC

2024-02-08 Thread Robert Rentfro via Mercedes
That was mine exactly, minus the clear plastic seat covers. AM tube radio, vacuum wipers, yes it was spartan but ran like mad. In the early-mid ‘80s when I drove that to work, my drive was still through irrigated orange groves, cotton fields, and alfalfa fields so even driving into work on a night shift in the summer there would always be a 15 to 20 degree delta T from ambient so it wasn’t totally unbearable. AZBob   Sent from Mail for Windows From: dan penoff.com via MercedesSent: Thursday, February 8, 2024 10:40 AMTo: Okie BenzCc: dan penoff.comSubject: Re: [MBZ] 1976 Mercedes Benz 450SLC Did it have a ginormous steering wheel? It makes sense. There are not enough of these cars on the road for their
emissions to make any difference. Saves the state and the owners time and money
that would otherwise be spent for no practical gain.
