Good point, I didn't notice the pictures and the time of year.

That's what classic car insurance like Hagerty is for. They'll do higher values
if you've got the supporting documentation and are willing to spring for it.

Since the photos are from summertime I guess it's been for sale for a while.
I'd also want to know whether the ACC works properly.

If it really is a close to perfect example, then the problem becomes that it's
too nice to drive. And you'll need a custom insurance policy.

cable/motor/rails? Axles? Diff? Driveshaft?

14" bundt forged wheels? Worth the price if it had 15" bundt forged wheels.

What about the unobtainium rear glass? Was it good? Is that still

Re: [MBZ] 1984 300SD MUST GO - $599

2016-03-19 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
My suspicion is that the engine was run out of oil and now has a knock or
something and the guy is trying to dump it. The story about the oil leak
and not wanting to junk the car kind of point to why the price is so low.

Same shop is selling an '87 wagon that supposedly has a good engine but
rotten body, maybe get both and upgrade the 126 with an OM603, SLS rear
suspension?

I'm planning to stop by after work and see what the story is.

I have to be out of town this weekend so can't go look at it. If you
get a chance might you be able to find out what he would take for it,
start at $300 and go maybe to $400. I'd probably just pull the engine,
tranny, diff and other useful bits and take it to the scrap yard.

Ah!  You are right!  I remember posts about that problem!  I never
drove a 123 300D, so I let it pass out of the RAM.

Thanks!  Easy fix!  you could even fix it with a piece of heater hose

Awful wheels, but don't let that stop you!

Just a couple blocks from work, I may check that out.

2007-10-22 Thread Kevin Kraly
Well, I was beaten to the punch. Someone bought it within a few hours of
posting. I didn't have a way to get over there (sure is a bummer when you
can't drive!). I've seen a number of MB Diesels on CL lately, so the right
one will come along at the right time, I guess.

Yeah, that's the one. I didn't even bother calling when I saw it a
few days ago; figured it was already gone. I'm surprised it hasn't
sold yet. Doesn't "it doesn't start although it does turn over"
usually just mean "I don't know enough about diesels to wait for the
glow plugs"?

Kevin, if you pass it up for some reason (other than it being a
hopeless basket case), I'm interested.

Is that the one where the description said something like "Ran great

be a Kaleb-type bargain---owner thinking the car was ready for the
junkyard when it really just needed a new GP relay or some such.

[MBZ] 1984 300SD parts car? Driver?

2007-10-22 Thread Kevin Kraly
I just spotted a 1984 300SD on CL that I'm hoping to buy. The guy is asking
$700 for it, and there are quite a few parts I can use for mine if it
doesn't run. It has 180K miles which is less than the 267K on mine although
it's condition rather than an odometer reading that really matters. The
story is that the guy was owed some money, and instead was given the title
and ownership of this Mercedes. I figure I can't really lose on this one
since I can use spares or sell off parts I don't need if it turns out to be
a heap. I'm going to truy for Kaleb's $500 or less and see what happens.
