What about that black sooty ooze in the intake manifold?
That comes from the EGR valve.

[MBZ] 2.5 T EGR mod WAS: Fuel delivery valve job

That would be  Dave Meiman  that figured out a way to modify the 
turbo so you can disconnect the EGR valve.


Here is the thread.  if you scroll down, there is a picture of the 
vacuum wastegate.
