No, the /8 is just a factory designation thing. It has to do with the
14/115 being a new generation of cars, more like modern cars. Somebody
else can probably explain it better than I can.

Starting during the 1971 production run, the 250 came equipped with the
larger 2.8 six cylinder. I had one of these cars, but it was not a
coupe. I always wanted a coupe, I think they are good looking cars.

As far as the carbs are concerned, they worked VERY well IF the you have
someone who knows carbs and how to rebuild them and make sure they are
set up properly. So many mechanics don't work on carbs anymore.

When I had my 250, the only problems I had were fairly minor, except I
had to replace the steering box, but that is probably related to
age/mileage than the car. The only other concerns were related to age
and lack of maintenance by the previous owner. I had to replace points
and condensers one freezing winter day because I had no spark.

I loved that old car. It had over 400,000 miles when I sold to it to a
friend. He drove it for quite a while then he sold it to another friend.
The oil pump blew up on him and crashed the engine. But, by then that
poor little gas engine probably had a half a million miles on it.

I never changed the timing chain-that's right never. I don't know the
answer to the /8 question except that mine was not a euro car and it was
a 250/8 also. The /8 did not refer to 8 cylinder.

Also, I got terrible mileage - maybe I drove it too hard - it was fun to
drive.

Oh, and the four-speed automatic does not have a torque
converter, only a fluid coupling. (Not sure that means
anything, other than it has a low first gear to make
up for it.)

The dual Zenith carbs, when they're working right, work
very well. They also are fairly trouble-free if they're
not broken. It can be hard to find somebody who knows
how to put them right, however. But once right they
ought to stay that way for quite awhile. (And yours
may be just fine.)

My brother has located a 1972 250C automatic and is thinking about
buying it. I have heard legends about the dual downdraft carbs-any
real

issues there?

Yeah. I'm a carb idiot. Our '72 250C conversion convertible hasn't
really run in years. That may be because I just haven't worked on it.
(But I do have two junkyard carbs in the trunk.) Someday. It's a
good looking car.

When it _was_ running, it ran fairly well. About 150 HP in that 2.8l
M130 engine, uses premium fuel only.

What about timing chain issues? Any other items to watch for?

It's a single-row chain, but in an I6 configuration it holds up
pretty well. All other issues are common 114/115 issues. Rust,
etc. Coupe-specific parts are a little hard to come by.

A question about badging-this one is a 114-023 chassis, but on the

It's a 250, in the 1968 (and beyond) configuration. Sounds right to me.
