Re: [MBZ] 722.9 4m teardown and rebuild
It’s not at all. I’ve rebuilt domestic slushboxes some years back, and other than what you point out, it’s not a difficult job at all. It doesn’t even require any specialized tools for the most part, basically a good pair of expanding ring pliers. If you had a place to do the work where you could lay everything out as you disassemble/reassemble it would be pretty simple. It’s mostly just popping clutches open, replacing the frictions and steels, bearings and seals, and putting everything back together. -D > On Oct 24, 2022, at 2:42 PM, Allan Streib via Mercedes > wrote: > > I haven't worked on a transmission it but seems to me the biggest things are > cleanliness and keeping track of all the parts. I haven't worked on a transmission it but seems to me the biggest things are cleanliness and keeping track of all the parts. If you are methodical and organized and not in a hurry it doesn't seem too intimidating. Just finished watching this video during my lunch. Pretty informative, and some good background on the workings of this transmission. That being said, after watching him disassemble it, there’s not a lot different from the good old PowerGlides and C4s from the days when I was in school when it comes to automatic transmissions. If I had the time and space I would consider rebuilding one of these myself. I’m not sure it would make good economic sense compared to a rebuild from Sun Valley, but my point is more that it’s not rocket science. -D > On Oct 24, 2022, at 2:20 PM, Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes > wrote: > > Yes absolutely > > --FT > Sent from iFōn > >> On Oct 24, 2022, at 12:06 PM, G Mann via Mercedes >> wrote: >> >> Even if you only do it once, you should own a good quality transmission >> jack before you do it.
