Buy a mid 90's GM car with the 3800. 30 MPG and they are cheap.

2017-10-30 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
I’m not taking sides or defending either party here, but from personal
experience….

I believe that car is equipped with parametric steering. If the solenoid in
the steering gear sticks, and when it does it’s typically at low speeds, the
steering returns to its normal (less assist) mode. My experience with this in
the W140 caused the steering to “judder” as it jumped from one mode to the
other. It was a great enough concern for me that I spent about 30 minutes
talking to the guys who are the absolute masters at rebuilding MB steering
gears out in Vegas. They confirmed what was going on and told me to just
disconnect the solenoid.

If she's one of those people who start turning the wheel while they're still
beside the car in the other lane, you know, the ones that cross the dotted
white line while they're still beside you in their hurry to cut you off as they
pass you?

Well in slow parking lot speeds like turning into a spot I have notice the
power steering stiffens up sometimes. My SDL will do it too sometimes. I drove
that car hundreds of miles a day and never had a problem. She says she went to
pass this truck and was moving to the left lane and the steering started
sticking going to the left. So she slowed down and was going to move back to
the right and it suddenly jerked to the right, hitting the truck. I guess it’s
possible.

2017-10-30 Thread Kaleb C. Striplin via Mercedes
The story is the steering stuck and she was correcting and as she did the truck
passed her and the right front caught the truck. That story does not seem to
make any sense. She must have been in the left lane getting passed on the
right. But the impact to me looks like that consistent with plowing into a
vehicle that slowed down or stopped. If she supposedly turned into the vehicle
that was passing seems the damage would have been quite different. Maybe I am
understanding it wrong.
