Re: [MBZ] Anybody ever swap a 115 300D into 123?
no, 114s were all gas powered 6 cylinder, 115 were diesel and 4 cylinder gas. The 115 has more body welds because they were used for heavy duty taxi service. never figured out what the difference was. 114 may be a short-hood version for 4 cyl engines The 114 was the up-scale version. All sixes were 114, all fours were 115. I'm not sure where the 5-cylinders fit in there, I think they might also have been 114. Our 250C is a 114, the 200D a 115. -- Jim

I am not into butchery of 123s. If it won't bolt in, I will look for an engine that will fit. Just a shame if I can't find a use for this nice engine. I butchered my old 66 bronco back in the day. It was a U110 factory ragtop. Had a whole 170 CU. IN, and got 10 mpg. I thought it could not be worse with a 289. Partway into the project, I found out Ford mad a 6 cyl frame and body and an 8 cyl frame and body. Had to butcher both frame and body to put the 289 in. But it did pull like a tractor.. still got 10 MPG. Then I had to butcher a 62 econoline to put the 170 in it. Pre- and post- 1965 drivetrains were completely different, so we put the 66 drivetrain under the 62. At 01:17 PM 5/23/2007, you wrote: Well, I guess I wouldn't. The 114/115 is the model designations for the midline cars mercedes made beginning with the 1968 model year. Also known as /8. From what I can gather, the 114 is used for smaller displacement petrol cars, and the 115 for the large displacement and diesel cars. [MBZ] Anybody ever swap a 115 300D into 123?
Building a frankenbenz Last weekend I started the project of stripping my 76 300D (115 body). The engine and transmission are really good, but the body had rotted away. I have been pondering the swap into my 80 240D (123) as I was lifting the engine out, I found the oil filter is near the front of the IP, not at the back of the engine as in the older and newer engines. Anyone BTDT? It looks like the engine might fit, if I use the old style PS pump on the engine, with remote reservoir. That means that I'd either have to use the york compressor, or do without A/c. I despise the york bracket, because you have to take it off to get to a lot of stuff. I had planned to fit the 240Ds accessory bracket (A/C PS) to the other engine. Has anyone ever put a 115 engine into a 123 body? Can anyone tell me if the differential and axles from the 115 will fit on the 123? Has anyone got a junker 123 300D with a good engine? I am going to be listing a bunch of parts for sale in the next few weeks, if you have a 114/115/108, you might watch for it.
