[MBZ] Bertha Benz, RIP

2014-05-05 Thread Rich Thomas
I think Bertha would have fit right in on the list. Tonight I shall
hoist a nice haus-braued bier in her honor. And when I pick up my SLS
at the factory I shall make sure to drive the route.

2014-05-05 Thread Meade Dillon
I wonder if there is a larger lesson here for MB:

On the way, she solved numerous problems. She had to find
ligroinhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ligroinas a
fuel https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuel; this was available only at
apothecary https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apothecary shops, so she stopped
in Wiesloch https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiesloch at the city pharmacy
to purchase the fuel. A
blacksmithhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blacksmithhad to help mend a
chain https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Link_chain at one point. The
brakeshttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brakeneeded to be repaired and,
in doing so, Bertha Benz invented brake
lining
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brake_lining.[5]https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bertha_Benz#cite_note-5She
also had to use a long, straight
hatpin https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hatpin to clean a fuel pipe, which
had become blocked, and to insulate a wire with a
garterhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garter_%28stockings%29
.

In my opinion, we hearty band of DIY MB owners are following in the steps
of the founder Bertha Benz, fixing our cars with our own hands. MBUSA
might be very well served to highlight our way of MB ownership!!!

Yeah and we are still fixing those cars in the same way today -- hat
pins, unusual potions, blacksmiths (or at least welders) and various
other devices and procedures. Except for insulating a wire with a
garter, don't believe I have done that lately...

I like Bertha more and more.
