Bob Contantino turned me onto a guy in
Florida says he worked for Bosch in Germany and has 20 years experience
rebuilding these things. He evidently still has a Bosch connection and can
get internal parts. He will rebuild my distributor for $325 and says he
replaces all internal parts. I imagine that's the soft parts and maybe the

Re: [MBZ] CIS rebuild kit

2007-07-09 Thread Trampas
Thanks to everyone, however I have put complete set of new injectors in the
car.

What I am looking for is the diaphragm for the CIS unit such that I can
remove unit and clean out.

I have tried to clean unit out, well as much as possible, but it appears
that there is some solid trash in the unit and/or the diaphragm is not
operating correctly.

Initially at idle I was getting zero fuel on one cylinder (also tried
different injector) after removing CIS unit and spraying CIS unit with carb
cleaner I was able to get some fuel at idle, which improved the miss a bit.
But it still is not correct.

If I can not get a rebuild kit for the CIS unit I guess I could build a EFI
system for the car and/or spend $1200 for a new CIS unit.

I use to put the injector in a clean plastic water bottle and life the float
and watch it spray. Not with the engine running of course. Careful, you
are dealing with raw fuel, and with a CIS it's under a LOT of pressure!!
CIS is Continous Injection System. Simple and durable system. I think
some of the injectors also have small screens in them, as a last line of
defense if the fuel filter misses something?? More often than not, I think
they just gum up a little. No moving parts in them, so you can try to clean
them somewhat.

Re: [MBZ] CIS rebuild kit

2007-07-09 Thread Tom Hargrave
Sounds like dried fuel in the unit. You can disassemble the two halves but
there is no gasket and you need to use a special sealer when re-assembling.
Some local mechanics have used one of the loctite products but I don't know
which one.

There is a control module on the side (don't remember the name). A better
solution is to remove this module to completely submerge the unit in carb
cleaner for about a week. You'll need to hold the plunger down so that the
cleaner can more easily enter the upper chambers.

If you know which cylinder is bad then you can swap injectors with another

a real percision fit. I looked for one a few years back for my 911 and I
was told Bosch will wait for a number or cores before they rebuild, so even
if you fork out the money, you may have to wait. All the problem was in my
case was two gummed up injectors. I would recommend you go with the
injectors first, and I like the suggestion of just changing with with an
injector you know is good to further narrow it down. Price of an injector
sure beats a few CIS unit!!

Good luck,

Re: [MBZ] CIS rebuild kit

I use to put the injector in a clean plastic water bottle and life the float
and watch it spray. Not with the engine running of course. Careful, you
are dealing with raw fuel, and with a CIS it's under a LOT of pressure!!
CIS is Continous Injection System. Simple and durable system. I think
some of the injectors also have small screens in them, as a last line of
defense if the fuel filter misses something?? More often than not, I think
they just gum up a little. No moving parts in them, so you can try to clean
them somewhat.

Good luck,

From my experience, your issue is more likely a worn out injector. They
 are
just mechanical poppet valves the spray pattern suffer badly at idle,
 where the least fuel flows.

In case you did not already know, the fuel distributor does not act like a
diesel distributor, where pulses are sent to each cylinder. The injection
system continuously sprays fuel through all injectors, even at idle. You
 can
imagine the very slight spray pattern at idle.
