[MBZ] CL600 Benzing today

2023-01-21 Thread Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes
I took off the intake manifold today and cleaned everything well. It was
actually not to hard to get it out, had to snake it under the wiring harnesses
for the injectors and some other sensors.

There was a considerable amount of oil in one side of the manifold. I guess
that was from the PCV? Got all that drained out and cleaned up with brake
cleaner. The manifold looks pretty nice. I didn’t take out the injectors and
fuel rail so I didn’t want to hit it with the steamer or other cleaner to get
it totally clean but it looks pretty good. The engine was actually pretty clean
although there were acorns and shite in there from mice or rats so I cleaned
all that out. The wiring all looked ok.

The oil cooler, which is beneath the intake manifold and heads and is a known
leak problem, looked pretty good. I’m hoping it has not or does not kakk. The
guy I bought it from thought this was the issue but now I’m thinking it was the
cam position sensor (which to replace requires the removal of the intake
manifold, ugh). So that’s a positive, for now.

Had new gaskets so put those in. There is only one locator pin which is weird
so I had to use a bit of adhesive to hold them in place then still had to work
them around a bit through a bolt hole. But I got everything in properly.

Went to get the small torque wrench I got at HF a coupla weeks ago and could
not find the damn thing. I thought sure I had put it in my tool bag so it would
be available when I was ready to do this job. Nope. I have no idea now where I
put the thing, I looked everywhere. Bah.

I broke an elbow on the brake booster vac line and then another one today on
the PCV hose as I was moving it out of the way. I guess I’ll have to order new
ones, sigh. The plastic ells were totally brittle after 22yr so understandable.
I don’t think they are individually available so a whole assembly it is. I
might see if I could bodge up some copper ells in the meantime.

I need to get another torque wrench since I can’t find the one I got (I blame
covids brain fog). I guess I’ll do that tomorrow, thus insuring I immediately
find the other one.

So anyway, getting this Beeste sorted , can’t wait to fire that sucker up and
take it for a run!
