which is interesting.  Anyway, if you have recently asked me for a report that 
I could not provide, feel free to send me the VIN and I will send you the 
report. If you are just randomly wanting me to run the VIN on every car you 
own, you might be out of luck on that. I may consider keeping the subscription 
going but folks might need to start contributing some funds to help support 
running the lists etc.

[MBZ] Carfax?

Anyone got access to CarFax or something other than Autocheck?

I ask because I’m trying to sort out the history on this 2008 ML550. Autocheck 
shows it as a theft and total loss in 2013. The NICB shows it as clean and 
clear. The seller says the title is clear.

I’m trying to figure out if Autocheck is wrong. I checked the Russian insurance 
auction site, too, but nothing there.

[MBZ] Carfax?

Wondering when the dealer put these starmarked NGK plugs in the ML. 
They've obviously been in there a LOOONG time. 
I doubt the car has seen a dealer since it came to Michigan. 

The first one I pulled out was hard to turn for the first few turns, quite 
rusty, and the gap was eroded to 0.80". The next one wasn't as hard to turn, 
but still stuck in there, and had major metal transfer from the center 
electrode to the ground. When I get home tonight I'll try to take off the coils 
and pull the other ten plugs. 

BTW, a long 17mm open end wrench makes a nice prybar to yank the plug boots 
off. 
Just slip the wrench over the metal boot and give it a bump with your fist.

That is the plan. I drive 30k miles a year. I figured I could cut my W201 teeth 
on a fairly non valuable car. I was/still am looking for a W201 diesel. Maybe 
I'll buy Thurd Floydsby's in the spring. I found a 2006 W211 for $5500 local to 
me, but I didn't have the money at the time.

Don’t Windex them, buy the foamy window cleaner that is approved for use on 
window tint.  It does a much better job.

I like Stoner “Invisible Glass”.  Works well on all glass surfaces and is safe 
to use on window tint, something that’s important both here and in AZ.

 As I understand it doing head gaskets proactively on these is a good idea. I 
talked to a guy that owns a small Subaru shop that sells cars and he does head 
gaskets on every car he gets in. He says they're quick and "easy"...

It shouldn't show up in the salvage databases, it has a clean title.
But carfax picks up on stuff like that, and Farmer's Insurance is the seller. 
Without a clean carfax, I don't want to pay more than $6k for it, which lets me 
bid $5300, and it's already at $5200 and the auction hasn't started yet. 
Next time I'm bringing a jump pack, the battery on the Focus is dead. 
Without knowing if it's still under warranty, it's a risk, albeit a low risk, 
to buy a car you can't hear run. Being a 2014 it's probably over 36 months old 
so you'd be into powertrain warranty instead of full warranty.

Federal Odometer Act
The Federal Odometer Act requires a seller to disclose the vehicle's mileage on 
the title when ownership is transferred. Congress enacted this Act to prohibit 
odometer tampering and to protect consumers from mileage fraud. Under this act, 
sellers must disclose any issues with the vehicle's odometer. These disclosures 
translate into the Exceed Mechanical Limits and Not Actual Mileage titles.
