[MBZ] Clean Engine, Why

2007-11-27 Thread Peter T . Arnold
I'm not sure why all of this somewhat impassioned talk goes on about a
Clean Engine
What is the reason that I should keep the internals of my engine
Clean
NOW don't misunderstand me, I am not in favor of Dirty engine but, I
do not get too excited if there is 1/4 of sludge in the bottom of my
pan. That's why the pan was designed the way it is, to hold settled
stuff for the lifetime of the engine.
It seem that changing oil on a regular basis does a fine job of
keeping the Lifters/Oil Passages/ Oil pick-up/rockers etc in a
serviceably clean condition.
What is to be gained doing any more?

BTW, I switched my Benz from DINO to Mobile1 for the cold start
improvement at about 150Kmi. I changed oil at 10Kmi, analysis at that
time shoed the oil was about 30% spent. I began changing at 20KMI,
support by anaysis I could have gone to 25 or 30. No leaks, no oil
related problems.

2007-11-27 Thread Tom Hargrave
It's not about cleaning an engine as much as removing sludge that can block
the oil pump pick-up and oil return galleries.
