If it’s capped off, which I couldn’t tell from the photo, I wouldn’t worry 
about it other than what you’ve done so far.

That looks like a connector that’s important. I would get under there and see 
if you can tell where it might have been plugged in. If you don’t see anything, 
just tie it up out of the way as you’ve done and move on.

The rubber spring covers are a PITA and I’m not sure exactly why they did this. 
They deteriorate over time as you can see. You can try pulling all of it off, 
but I would just let it deteriorate in place. Unfortunately, these hold 
moisture, so you can see where the springs are rusting. Unless you see 
something concerning, ignore it, there’s nothing you can do and it likely won’t 
hurt anything.

You can’t see it in the picture but that connector is fitted with a cover/plug protecting it from road schumtz. That’s what made me think it’s something that may or may not get utilized. That looks like a connector that’s important. I would get under there and see 
if you can tell where it might have been plugged in. If you don’t see anything, 
just tie it up out of the way as you’ve done and move on.

The rubber spring covers are a PITA and I’m not sure exactly why they did this.

I’m thinking it is there if someone wants to install that spare tire holder 
contraption. I didn’t see anything it obviously plugged into so I simply zip 
tied it up out of the way. 
While under there I noticed this:


Is that just some type of coating on the bottom of the slings I am unfamiliar 
with?
